How to Make an Effective Request

The purpose of the Paid Word is to seek paid (or sometimes free) work from others.

Golden Rule

Requests are most likely to be fulfilled if you're reputable, deliver results and have a history of giving back to the community.

Someone who's published a completed game, has a specific request in mind and has contributed in the past will have a 1000x better chance of getting helped than a newbie who does nothing but ask for somebody to draw up "all the graphics" for his game idea that he wrote up but hasn't even prototyped a demo for. Put yourself in someone else's shoes. Who would you help?

Guidelines
  • Be Specific about what you're looking for.
  • Tell us where the deliverable will be used. A request for an unproven, unprototyped game idea will not be done. Show us the playable game.
  • Be upfront if you're looking to pay or share revenue. Paid requests are more likely to be noticed and taken seriously.
  • Collaborate with the one giving help. In the case where you do get an offer for help, work seriously with them. Your satisfaction is only as good as how well you're able to communicate your needs with them. Along the same lines, know when to cut the cord when things aren't working out, and exercise restraint in making endless demands.

Good, I've got number 3 correct. I'm going to add game bonuses and advertising for the person who helps me.

You should be a bit more specific about what this forum is about- I guess its about either game makers or artists who want the other type of person to help complete their game.

Anyone know of another good request example?  The one linked was recently deleted.

That's a shame. We'll quote the next time we find one good.

I made a post offering service, and I just want to make sure it is allowed. Is the forum only for asking for help, or we can offer, also it's free, only for credit, and thus not advertising.

A post like that should be located in " Shared Resources "  or " Game art " .
