I feel very stupid but why this is not working?

it looks like it's not setting the value of the attribute (printing return always 0) not only this but forcing a value to random_spawner ignores the if block.. same goes for the spawner_x..

why is this happening?

I think there's a mistake in the way you use "set game attribute".
If you use "set game atttibute" you must type the name of the attribute.

When you use "set game attribute <random_spawner> to _", you will get the value of random_spawner (0) and then set a game attribute called "0".

There should be a block
"set random_spawner to _"
use this one instead.
