Hey! My name is Braden. I am not new to the game development community, but I am to Stencyl. I own a small company called "Grape Soda Games". We have a game on the App Store that has recently hit over 25,000 downloads. We used a different program in the past, similar to this program. I'm not going to say the specific name, but I recently became very frustrated with the slow updates, multiple, multiple bugs, and the lack of features that Stencyl has! I recently discovered Stencyl and realized how deprived my development and games have been of some of the great features like polygon collision, and joints that Stencyl has, and the ability to be able to write CODE if you so choose! The other program we used for our first game did not allow this, and we became very limited to what we were allowed to do. Stencyl does not have these limitations!  Now I have only played around with it for a couple days, but I'm loving it! Sooooo many things that I love about this program that the other didn't that I can't even begin to list them all! I can't wait to start getting to know this community and the other developers, and publish another great game to the App Store using this program.

Cheers.

Hi all!

I'm Kamil. I'm a long-time, very passionate gamer. I've always been interested in gamedev but the thing that stopped me from trying to make games and not just play them was coding. It always seemed like black magic and an impenetrable wall for me. I've been going through some tutorials here on Stencyl's help pages and it looks doable. I'm not shooting to be next Carmack or Sweeney but I intend to try making games for fun, and for other people to enjoy. Hell, if I even manage to make any money on it, that's just for the better.

I expect to learn better understanding of various game mechnics from developer's perspective and turn it into my own design that is playable and fun. Oh, and yeah, I also do expect to fail miserably dozen times in a row ;)

So, back to learning basics, Stencylpedia and making my first game :D

GOOD. You have a good idea of what lies ahead, and that it won't be easy. But that will prepare you hopefully and perhaps make you less prone to total burnout.

Just start simple, and don't forget to have fun! Welcome to the community!
Do NOT PM me your questions, because I likely will not respond. If I have replied to your question on the forum, keep using that topic. Thanks!

Greetings Stencyleers!

Little about me.
My name is Jakob but most people call me "Foona". I was born and raised in Sweden in a very small town without any real future in site. That changed when I moved to Stockholm (the capitol of Sweden). Music has been the highlight most of my life and I've got loads of experience when it comes to music production, sound engineering, live recording and mixing. Iv'e done every job there is in one way or another. I actually used to make a living making music, but now those days are all gone (for me at least).

When music sales plummeted into oblivion I was hit by depression and I started drinking a lot...really A LOT. Getting things done when drunk all the time is hard and I finally decided to stop in 2012 (x-mas). I have now been sober for the past 4 months going strong and it feels absolutely awesome!

I still produce music, but only for my own amusement. :) This will help greatly in creating sounds for my upcoming game creations.

The reason why I'm on the Stencyl forums?
I am addicted to gaming and have been since I got my first computer back in the late 80's, a Commodore 64. Yes the ones with games stored on tapes. :o

Iv'e got 30 years of gaming experience and I am fairly sure that I now know exactly what I want in a game, so its time to make my own. I am no programmer, not even a "amaturammer" (excuse the pun) so Stencyl fits perfect into my plan.

X-perience (a part from music related applications etc)
I have experience with using Photoshop for about 15 years, mostly reducing zits on beautiful ladies, making printing and press material such as covers etc. However I've got no experience creating tiles or graphics for games. I also have my fair share of Adobe Premiere hours on my resume.

In the past I've been "fiddling" around with Adobe Flash, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Dreamweaver. In my 20's I used an application called RPG-maker to create a game but I never really got the hang of it.

My goal.
..is to create games from scratch using Stencyl and then publish them to the Itunes market and hopefully make some money. I will be working on a PC however. When searching the forums I get the feeling that creating games for IOs devices on a PC can be a bit tricky. Hopefully it will work out in the end.

What I've done so far?

* I've visualized the game I want to start making and I've discussed it with people that I can trust wont steal my ideas. Good friends are hard to come by.

* I've downloaded a free version of Blumind, a mind-mapping application. I am using this to "scribble" down and keep track of my ideas regarding game-world looks and game mechanics, graphics, features, music, soundFx, player/enemy models, menus etc.

* I've downloaded Stencyl and finished Crash tut's 1 and 2 successfully.
(I haven't chosen a pro account yet. I will go pro when I feel that I've got a firmer grip using Stencyl. I am still struggling a bit understanding exactly what happened during the Crash courses.)

* I've started reading through (fine-combing) the Stencyl wiki.

* I've started a per month Adobe creative suite subscription. I work on other projects in my spare time and that suite is very very useful.

* I am currently making my first post in this forum, and it is becoming pretty long...

* I am also currently working with a drawing artist. She helps me illustrate and visualize stuff that will eventually be in the game. This process makes it easier when designing/drawing actual game tiles/models later in Photoshop.

This list will become longer I know, but I feel I'm up to a good start!

Anyone needing help with..?
If there is anyone out there that have questions about music, soundFx, anything from converting sound formats to producing etc, send me a PM and I'll try to answer it for you. As stated above, I've got LOADS of experience. I am going to need help with programming, and in exchange I'll gladly help with the "Sound" part of your creations.

Best Regards and wish me luck, I need loads of that too..

I just joined because I heard about the program. It seemed really cool and I was tired of playing steam games all day and make a game for once. So I decided to get stencyl because I have no idea how to code.

Hello, I'm Diretooth.
I just got Stencyl to see if I could learn how to use it and make cool games.

I started making games with RPG Maker VX Ace and am quite adept with it, though Stencyl looked pretty fun as well.
I hope to learn how to make some awesome platformers, among other games, and figure out how to make my own sprites and stuff.
May the Moon light your path, and the Shadows hide you from your prey.

Hi, I'm Bibleebob from DeadRau. I'm currently the only member because I only made this account a few hours ago. I've always been a gamer and my dream has always been to be some-sort of Games/Software Developer.

I came from a little website called Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) but found it too easy and looked at various other programming languages; Python, Java etc. until I finally downloaded Adobe Flash Pro CS6 and used ActionScript 2.0. I loved this language however it eventually dawned to me that I couldn't afford it and my trial would run out very soon. I asked 08jackt from BoxRocketStudios (http://boxrocketstudios.weebly.com) and he said suggested I should try Stencyl as it is free and not too hard. I hope I enjoy my time here, make a some cool games and maybe get a sponsor in a few years time. That'd be great.

So yeah, if you could "Follow" us and stuff that'd be really helpful. Expect to see some games appearing over there!

Thanks, Bibleebob.

I started using Stencyl in July-ish last year - subscribed in August I believe - finished my first game sometime just after, then made my 2nd game by October. Started my 3rd game end of October and my 4th around Xmas. By march my 3rd and 4th game were sponsored - so its certainly achievable in a reasonable amount of time/work, if you keep at it. :)

Anyhow, welcome.

Hello everyone!

I have heard about stencyl yesterday and gived it a try. But first let me introduce myself.

First of all i'm french so if you see some weird sentence and bad english, things happen :P I have learned english trough online games, left school to young to learn it there so bad grammar = internet fault. I'm a programmer since i'm 6 year old, coded in many different language starting with qbasic on a computer color 3 (Tandy). I'm not that old as many could think by hearing this i'm 30 year old. I, like everyone in here, have dream to make tons of game and all what it come with since a long time. I have coded in many language like i said and used many framework and game engin such as Ogre 3D, Unity, flixel and many more. But since i'm always working alone in my project (no one i know are good enough with computer.. sadly) i never finished any project. I'm creating my own art and music also with adobe tools and fl studio (i play alot of instrument). I hope that i'll be of some help in this forum!

Cause yes, i'm definitly sitting my ass around here. Like i said i got stencyl yesterday and i'm really amazed by the power and intuitive design that stencyl have to give. In 3 hour this morning without reading any tutorial i could build up an intro with buttons, credits page, level select and had my tilesets in a 100x100 tile map of 64 pixel a tile + character moving around in 8 direction with animation and it was surprisingly fast. Just wow. I have read some bad comments on the net about stencyl but i think those guy didnt even gave it a try. I'm certainly going to buy me a license as soon as i have some extra money.

I'm coding in as3 since a couple month and had never heard of this engine before. This is really strange cause what it has to offer is just crazy.

Anyway, happy to have found this place! :)
