Good pixel art creators?

I personally kinda like Pixen, though it's Mac only, not really in active development anymore, and a tiny bit buggy. It's specifically for animated pixel art and has some nice features pertaining to that, and it's free, which is cool.

(Oh, if you'd like to actually download the app and not the code, click on the gray "downloads" button upper-right corner.)

More often than not I find myself using Photoshop, though, (which I find great for pixel nudging.)

MS paint and Graphics gale are all you need man, they have all you'll ever need for pixel work.
GG is my fav but i still use paint for transparency, never fully figured that out for GG.

Gimp and photoshop are also good,.. though i only use it for fast color changes.

AH i forgot to add, Kolour Paint is fantastic, only out for linux though, it's like paint but much better because of the shortcuts and other things, look it up.

I do just about everything in photoshop due to the layers and custom brushes (which actually work really nice with certain pixel art styles). But, like every kind of powerful software, it takes some getting used to. And if you like obeying the law, it's pretty expensive.

I use Photoshop Elements, there's a lot of missing features but it can do the trick, and it's way cheaper (+-100 € for a recent version, I got an older one for 50€)

I have noticed, inside the folder of Stencylworks you'll find pencyl.jar file. i have tried it and i think its a very promising pixel art creator and its free since its bundled with the StencylWorks

Give it a try...StencylWorks >> pencyl.jar

You can access this easier by clicking on any graphic in Stencylworks and hitting the 'edit image' button. It's built right into Stencylworks.

I used Pencyl today for raw creation, in fact (no wait, it was yesterday now). I needed a very basic tileset, so I just created a new one, added some blanks, and drew right onto it with Pencyl. Worked great!
