Stencyl not opening correctly in Microsoft Vista. [Resolved - move SW dir to C:\

Problem: When I open StencylWorks with Administrative Privledges in Microsoft Vista, it does not open correctly. Nothing shows up, but the Processes tab in the Microsoft Task Manager shows that it's operating.

I've already tried to restart my computer, reinstall StencylWorks, updated Java, tried opening the program without admin. privledges, and consulted a very helpful person in the official Stencyl chat to try to diagnose and correct the problem.

So far nothing has worked, so I am wondering what else I could do to try to solve this problem.

I attempted to assist Moga with this problem, unfortunately everything I could think of failed. I'm hoping that someone else who knows the inner workings of the program better could figure out a solution for this. I'm not sure if Alexin would be able to help given his work on the Windows installer? Anyway, I hope we can come up with something that would alleviate this problem.

Could you take a screenshot of exactly what you see? Does anything show up in the Windows taskbar? What if you attempt to double-click sw.jar instead of the exe?

Nothing happens in the taskbar. Here is a picture of what I see in the processes tab when I click the .exe file and the sw.jar file:

But, when I click the sw.jar file when I already have a instance of StencylWorks open like the above picture I get this:

Try rebooting your pc, and then run the sw.jar.   or you could for just the sake of this problem. Continue running sw anyway and have two copies open.

From what I can see in your task manager, it looks like sw is open as well as Java. Unfortunately, that is the best I can do for now. Hopefully someone else has a better idea.

Where is SW installed?

The old EXE, the one that displays a console, could help debugging this problem. I'm not on my PC right now. Does anyone have a copy o share with Moga?

Replacing your StencylWorks.exe with this one will display a console on startup. This will hopefully provide some information to assist in debugging

Try running it as an administrator(?). Right click -> "Run as administrator".

Chub, he has tried running it both with and without the admin privileges, and was unsuccessful.

Noa and Moga, you both should try replacing your StencylWorks.exe file with the one I posted above. It will display a debug console that could help aid in solving the problem, when you have done that post back and let us know.

I downloaded, and replaced the .exe with the console one you gave- and got this.
I tried just running several instances of SW also but I got the same results as usual.

I believe I already had you reinstall SW on your computer, but it looks as though some major files required to run the program are missing. Unfortunately, the best thing I can say for now, is redownload, and then reinstall, you may have corrupted files on download or something weird like that, otherwise, this is out of my league and I hope someone else has a better Idea on how to solve this problem.

In your case noa, Unfortunately I don't read German, so I'm not exactly sure what the error is that is happening and how I can provide an accurate answer.

That's a very interesting (and useful) console output. It's effectively unable to find/load all the supporting libraries.

Could you confirm for me that a "lib.jar" file exists in the StencylWorks directory?

If you're running StencylWorks out of your Documents directory, one trick that has worked for some in the past is to move it to your home directory (one level up). Not ideal, but let's see if this works.
