Game Art / Re: First stab at pixel art/main character for 8-bit game.
« on: March 27, 2011, 10:59:58 am »
He looks good and definitely fits that kind of style. Though, he's not using an 8-bit palette or following the 8-bit's limited color count if you're going for authenticity.

Perhaps we should have an art/creativity forum to distinguish between people's personal works and actual resources to help others.

Like Hoamaru said, start with more humble art styles. A game doesn't need art that looks like it took talent to make for it to look good, it just needs to look consistent and pleasing to the eye. Geometric, abstract, or just really small art is the easiest way to go about this.

If you're looking to actually become talented with any art then all you can do is try and make the art you already can make and over time your brain will gradually improve on the subject.

Old Bugs (1.x/2.x) / Re: Weird Error
« on: March 25, 2011, 01:44:35 am »
This is different from the thing you ran into. In this case, the XML file was either left out or unreadable by the engine, so it at least opened in SW.
I was getting these kinds of errors soon after fixing my game from the 'unable to open at all' bug, but as Ethan said it would either go away on its own or I would find a solution from fixing a backed up copy instead. You're probably right in that the error isn't related to the corrupted .xml files, I just connected the two because those two issues always followed one another for me.

I get that kind of error whenever the files in the games folder are corrupted, typically the .xml files. I don't have a solution.

Got Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 for the PS3 yesterday. Been playing the heck out of it and it is really fun. The characters are all unique and the fighting is fast and jam packed with style.

Dante and Zero are currently at the top of my list. I'm trying to get used to Amaterasu's fighting style as well.
Me and my friend recently got MvC3 on PS3 as well. You and me ought to play some time, seeing as we both have it. My mains right now are Wesker, Zero, and either X-23 or Crimson Viper.

Been playing pokemon yellow recently. Here's my party as it stands now. All level 24.
  • Pikachu
  • Pidgeotto
  • Ivysaur
  • Charmander
  • Squirtle
All you need is a Butterfree and you'll have Ash's exact early setup.

What did you use to make these? Regular MS Paint, Paint.NET, what image editor?

I typically use GraphicsGale for all of my spriting.

Edit: Also thanks for all of the compliments.

The most I can do is give you a quick NES palette reskin of it. A lot of it wasn't designed to work well under 4 colors, especially with everything having a black outline, so if you want it to look good you'll have to edit the details to your liking.
