Something like this should do it.

Either way, I wouldn't mind knowing how just in case it does work.

Ask a Question / Implementing Scripts?
« on: December 04, 2018, 12:48:16 pm »
Upon discovering that if your desktop resolution is smaller that your game runs faster while in fullscreen I was wondering if there was a way to make the game run a script the decreases your screen upon launch. I've played games before that after you quit your screen res is smaller as to help the games performance, I was wondering how you could pull that off. I assume it's a script in the folder with the game that runs when you launch the game. Anyone have more knowledge on this?

Ask a Question / Re: FPS Underpreformance Problem

Nevermind, put the fps code into "when created" and it's working better now. oops :I

Edit: OH btw. Found a way to make fullscreen mode run smoother. If your game is lets say 300 x 400 like mine if you turn your screen res down to say 600 x 800 your game will run like butter in fullscreen mode.

Ask a Question / FPS Underpreformance Problem Solved
« on: December 03, 2018, 11:39:17 pm »
Hello again. I've run into a bit a problem regarding how fast my game is running. It seems that it doesn't matter what I set the fps to as it always under preforms. When set to 60fps it falls to 48-50fps. Even setting it to 10fps it falls to 6-4fps. Am I doing something wrong here? Code for scene posted below. I'm willing to post further detail if asked. Thank you.

Btw, I have included an image of an empty scene with nothing in it set to run at 60 frames running at 50. yeah.

I'm sure it is, probably take a while though... better to post that question in the ask forum.

Chit-Chat / Share Random Game Ideas!
« on: November 26, 2018, 05:24:41 pm »
Thought it would be fun to discuss the various ideas for games of this little community. This forum is for most part is used to ask questions about problems we run into but I think it may be fun to discuss other topics regarding what exactly we're making in the first place. Whether it be something you're working on, something you'd like to do, or just a random thought share them here!

I personally had an idea for a game in the style of a jrpg only instead of taking turns with an enemy wailing on each other and shifting through a menu of attacks fights with enemies are in the style of a shmup, normal enemies having you engage an enemy wave and exp can be spent on upgrades and different weapons. Still think a one hit kill unless you have a shield would keep all fights interesting.

Thanks a lot for the help! I still couldn't get it working with them both being solid and only once I made the enemy a sensor to the player did it start responding. I implemented the first suggestion and it is working although it only seems to work if I give it a space to overlap a bit. The hitboxes are 20x20 cubes enveloping the entire sprite. I don't know if it must overlap or not in order to get a collision.

Edit: Ok, using what you told me I've created a collision detector that CANNOT IN ANYWAY neglect a stomp. It's rough and there are still loopholes like getting it to only work on the top but I think it's on its way. I posted it below the first code. I think the default collision blocks can use some work. Thanks again for all of the help!  :)

Ask a Question / Re: question for dress-up type game

This could be done quite easily, You could make a single actor for each feature and make each different articular of clothing a different animation. Make a button that cycles through numbers and code the actor to change animation based on the current number. You could do the same thing with skin tones by doing the same thing, making the base an actor with different animations being the different skin tones, just make sure to put it on the back layer and the clothes on the top ones.

I've made a playable demonstration of the problem:

Ask a Question / Re: Enemy collision problems

I've ran a few tests. I've found that if the enemy is moving up it can be killed. Could this have something to do with the hitboxes themselves? I have them both set as solid, although iv'e also tried to set the enemy as a sensor but now the player just ends up passing through the enemy when set to detect top collisions. It does however detect any random collision when set to kill upon detecting the player.

Perhaps I've been explaining things a bit confusingly. I've programed an enemy that dies when it is stomped on. While it works as intended when coded to stay still (speed=0) if I set it to even move even a bit then the collision detection stops working. I can't seem to figure out why it's doing this. If anyone has any information please help. I apologize for prodding and will cease from this point on.

Ask a Question / Re: Collisions on enemy not responding while it's moving.
« on: November 19, 2018, 06:47:19 pm »
That's not really the problem. The code works fine when the enemy isn't moving, I jump on it and it dies. If I have it in motion it becomes unresponsive.

Ask a Question / Re: Kill actor when collided with tiles
« on: November 17, 2018, 11:21:56 pm »
It's as simple as this. This is for sure the most basic way of doing it though, as soon as it touches a tile it's deleted. You can't make the reaction more complex if you like. Of course if you had already done something similar to this it my have something to do with your collision settings.

I'm having trouble with figuring out what exactly I'm doing wrong. Ok, I create an enemy that is killed by jumping on the head, it works as intended until start having it move, now it doesn't seem to respond at all. I bounce off it's head and my player responds as intended, bouncing up but the enemy doesn't die. I've written a simplified version of the code as an example for you all that is similarly flawed. It works if it's set not to move but doesn't otherwise. Please help, thanks.

Update: Ignore the previous statements. I run a few tests and I don't believe it's the problem with the code and I not sure if it's actually a bug. I've made a playable demonstration of the problem:
