Please rate/review this game and all Stencyljam 2015 entries! It's been a blast! Go Stencylers!!! Dev log posts below....

------------------------------------------------------------

Hello! I'm excited for Stencyl Jam 15, ready to work out a fresh/recent game concept I had kicking around. So, the idea is something of an Ecco the Dolphin-type game, but instead of a dolphin, you're a plastic bag. Possibly you speak to other non-recyclables while on a journey to rejoin your species on the great plastic bag island of legend.

Today I put together a splash screen and title with original new-age music. Also designed our hero (the bag), but will post that after I've got it in-game.

Ask a Question / Cannot test on mobile devices (iOS/Android)
« on: November 25, 2012, 08:40:37 am »
I've now spent way too much time and money trying to get Stencyl to function as advertised on my windows 7 machine. After purchasing a license to test/publish on iOS, I didn't expect the process to be so frustratingly difficult! I wish I could have set everything up and had it functioning before spending the money, that way I could use the whole year for game design instead of beta testing.

All I want to do is test my games on iOS and/or Android, and eventually publish.

This is an advertised feature, one that I paid a considerable amount of money for. $99 to Apple, and the price of Stencyl Studio.

After staying up all night setting up and testing iOS certificates, I couldn't get a build to open on my iPhone. At that point, I had two options: jailbreak and test on Android.

Neither of these options worked. Xcode won't build, and Android testing freezes on the "compiling" message in Stencyl. Testing locally on iOS doesn't work either.

Why did I pay the money if I'm not able to easily use the features?!

I know some Windows/PC users are able to use these Stencyl features. For the love of god, somebody help me out here!

Thank you,
MagicPegasus

Windows / Mac / Flash / HTML5 / Where.Is.Mrs.Honey? (Demo)
« on: May 02, 2012, 01:49:08 pm »
What to say...this game is kind of odd. It's about a bear who is looking for his wife, Mrs. Honey. It's kind of a maze/rpg hybrid. Use the arrow keys to move and make decisions.

For a lot of the time, I was just playing with the design, seeing what I could and couldn't do. I'm still working on getting random battles (or Mother 3/Chrono Trigger collision-triggered battles) implemented, adding Mrs. Honey herself, and a LOT of puzzles.

Please suggest a feature and/or let me know what you think! Thanks a lot! -MP

King David's Bible Trivia (Demo): http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/12129
Controls: press [z] to jump, press twice to "prayer"-jump :D

Bible trivia expert King David has found himself in a bind. He's stuck in the depths of Hades and must climb his way out. Along the way he'll jump over chasms, climb some stairs, climb some ladders, stub his toe, and DIE over and over!

Also, he might memorize a few Bible verses and collect some gold coins. More on that in future updates!

Please let me know what you think and make some feature requests. Stencyl 4 life! -MP

Ask a Question / Also cannot publish! No sound files in game at all...
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:56:19 am »
Hi, I'm using Stencyl to run a backdrop program for my musical Salamander Leviathan. I needed to export a swf or publish to web in order to run my backdrops on another computer. Because I ran out of time dealing with publishing errors, I ended up installing Stencylworks on the other computer and copying the game folder. It felt drastic, but was the only way I could meet the deadline (soundcheck is in like three hours).

For future reference, I'd like to know what's happening here. I have administrator permissions, no mp3 files, or any sound files for that matter, and have tried saving to multiple locations.

I've attached the log file. Please help or point me in the right direction. It would really be much more convenient to be able to publish to swf!

Thanks,
MP

Ask a Question / Can Stencyl be Used to Make A Facebook Game?
« on: December 04, 2011, 07:42:09 pm »
I was wondering what the status is for using Stencyl to make games playable on Facebook? Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, what are the multiplayer capabilities offered by the Stencyl engine? I saw some pretty impressive features on something called Electrotank I believe..

Ask a Question / Actor Regions: Dragons and Paratroopers
« on: December 02, 2011, 01:57:06 pm »
Hi, I'm getting into some unfamiliar territory and need some help...

I have a paratrooper actor that bails out of a destroyed plane. I want to be able to shoot his parachute and watch him fall to his death...or...shoot the paratrooper's body and he'll die that way, leaving the parachute.

-along the same lines-

I have a dragon actor that I want to shoot in the head to kill. If the bullet hits another part of its body, I need it to bounce off, or cause the dragon to shoot fire at the player.

--------------
I'm guessing the way to do this is by using regions, which I've never tried before and don't quite understand...or by anchoring one actor to another.

Please give me some pointers if you know about these types of actions. Thanks a lot!

Ask a Question / Aiming crosshairs
« on: December 02, 2011, 01:16:08 pm »
Hi, I've got my WIP of my next game, a cannon shooter called Mr. Turret, online and ready to play test.

http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/9662

One feature request I'm getting is an aiming reticle (crosshairs). Mr. Turret is able to aim in a quarter-circle range. The direction of the player is drawn on the lower left corner of the screen (angle).

How would I draw crosshairs based on the player's direction?

I know it must have something to do with radius and pi. Please point me in the right direction, Stencyl wizards!

Thank you,
MP

Mr. Turret shoots down airborne threats to our way of life! Use the up and down arrows to aim, [space] to fire. You have a limited number of shots per stage. Run out without downing all targets and you'll lose a life. Let one of the targets cross the border and you'll lose a life.

WIP Notes (Updated 11.4.11)

-Around 20 stages, each one a little more difficult
-Several enemy types: birds, wavy moving birds, flying pigs, helicopters, and planes
-A few sound FX...will include more and some tunes before final release!

Features to add: calculate time bonus/limit, calculate extra shot (stage par) bonus, online leaderboards, and of course music and sound effects (duh).

Please let me know what features and enemies you would like to see in the final product, or just your general thoughts on the game. Big thanks to the Stencyl community for your support so far, you guys are pretty awesome!  :-*

Ask a Question / Lives-1 results in infinitely decreasing number?
« on: November 25, 2011, 12:09:39 pm »
Hi, I'm having trouble with something I thought would be simple. I'm trying to lose a life. I have lives as a game attribute and a scene behavior that loses a life when it hears a message from the main actor. Instead of losing one life, however, the lives just continue to count down into the negatives. I've attached a picture, please help!
Thanks,

Ask a Question / Help with Bullet Directions
« on: November 17, 2011, 12:38:59 am »
Hello,
I've started my third project with Stencyl, a cannon shooter. Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong with the bullets here. I have a behavior for rotating my cannon and firing a bullet in the direction of the cannon, but bullets are not going in the right direction. I've attached examples.

Please help! Thank you,

Ask a Question / Making a Board Game on Stencyl
« on: November 03, 2011, 04:54:08 pm »
Hello,
I'm ready to dive into my 2nd Stencyl game...title TBA soon, but first I need help from you wonderful people of the Stencyl community.

Any ideas on how to begin making a board game on Stencyl? I want to start simple, like Monopoly but with less spaces. My game will be kind of like Mario Party, in that I want the player to "roll" the dice and move the determined number of spaces.

I can't wrap my head around the logic it would take to do this kind of linear movement. I have the board set up with 16 spaces, and I want to use one dice, so the player could move 1-6 spaces each roll.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated! If there is a kit available, I couldn't find it. Perhaps my game will be converted into the first kit :)

Thanks a lot!
