Chit-Chat / Re: Any money in web games?
« on: February 11, 2012, 01:53:31 am »
Yes, money can be made in web games, look at freaking angry birds!
It's relatively easy to program, and it's fun!

The simplest of games will bring in cash, it's a known fact.

I plan on making a RPG for desktops and the phone, however the phone version will require a keyboard unless I make an on screen controller.  A simple checkbox will fix that.

I'm going to go pickup a new smartphone on Monday but having a hard time if I want to continue with iOS devices or give Android a try.  Regardless if I choose android I'll just root and image Android 4.0 Ice-cream Sandwich.

iOS hasn't changed much and I don't think it'll hurt to try android until the iPhone 5 and hopefully a widget based desktop instead of just icons.

The Droid 4 sports a keyboard and to some extent especially when I'm typing I would like the keyboard, but on the other hand the Galaxy has a 720/1080p HD display!  Both have pretty much the same amount of ram and have a duo core Processor. Except that the Galaxy is capped at 32GB.. I love phones or anything that supports over 64Gigs of data.

What do you guys think?  and yes I do plan on developing for the phone I get.

Simple, post your desktop, for 30" screens just link or thumbnail them.

I'm not selling it til around May when I finished upgrading it and cleaning it internally.

Here's the specs.
HP Z800 March 2010 Build, added 14+GB Ram, Dlink wireless networking, Asus 7.1 channel sound card.

Current Specs, just on the top of head.
Quad-Core 2.0GHZ Xeon
16GB Ram DDR3
DVD-RW DL drive (not the slide in like the macbooks)
Dlink wireless network PCI adapter (pre-installed)
Asus 7.1 sound card

This thing can be configured up to.
12-cores Xeon (Highest Xeon possible as of today) X2
196GB Ram
Up to 3-4 optical drives! Blu-ray, DVD, CDR awesome! Floppy disk? ^O^

I will also be including a dell 3008WFP and it was Prof.Calibrated to boost the price easily $1k!

Pre-installed software:
Adobe Master Collection CS5
Bitdefender total protection 2012
AVG Internet Security 2012

The price I'm asking for the Z800 + Dell 3008WFP is $1500, that's just the starting bid.

Mac OS X 10.4.11. ^_^

Windows 7 is backup only for communication if a malfunction were to happen, and not regularly used.
I'm assuming your on an iMac that was preinstalled with tiger?  Didn't know tiger users still were around considering apple does release stable updates and major OS releases.  Unlike windows lol, took 3 times just to get windows 7 right.

I'm selling my PC for a Mac pro so my only computer is my Mabcook pro(July 2011 model) that run Lion(awesome version of OSX!)

I code logically, so if player is down do down animations/attacks.  So basically you would just comment out or delete Down and Up directions of course make sure syntax wise it's stable.

However, I do want to get a Standard RPG Dev Kit out there and build on top of that for an action RPG.

The best turnbased/ATB(Action Time Battle) system was Chrono Trigger.

Everything in these kits will be custom code and nothing from forge.

Development for this kit will not begin until StencylWorks 2.0 is released.

What do you use on a daily basis? What's more productive or fun for you?  Do you spend more time compiling packages or more time developing? Are you a Linux, Mac, or Windows user?

I currently have installed as my MAIN OS, Gento 12, I also have CentOS installed as well.
I was using windows up until all my windows programs worked perfectly in Wine so I no longer needed windows + it wasn't my favorite OS to use (that's OSX)  and the fact that stencyl works perfectly in linux is awesome! Haven't downloaded it in Gentoo though, looks like it's only tested on ubuntu(as far as I can see).

So, what's your main OS?

You can create (or copy-paste) the backend of your game with regular classes and use behaviors as the frontend.
You can delegate all the logic to Freeform behaviors.
You can do whatever you want with them, without being restricted to the behavior hierarchy.
What about making calls to them with behaviors, say I had a class named menu and was setup like so.

def menu(call,x,y)
# stuff here
^. Been programming in ruby a lot lately.

So let's say I need to call it in the front end menu so I'd make the call menu(arg1,arg2,arg3) and that should work right.

It's basic programming logic but making sure on my end.

Look at the date and my last post, I just said stencyl 1.0 was not ready for an RPG as it was missing key things (how events are handled in 2.0) and cause it was pure code I couldn't just say if a = event than do b end.

Maybe I'm missing something here?  But what exactly is it for if you can do what you need with scenes and actors(don't they control your game anyway?)

What I see it for is stuff like in game menus, RPG Actor System, but since I can't seem to find it in the help menu yet alone the forums I'm just seeing it as something (hey, it's there).

Paid Work / Re: Enemy Walking/ Attacking AI
« on: February 10, 2012, 12:16:36 am »
Ah, so predetermined than?

I'd say if the enemy is 3-5 pixels away from the enemy you should set an enemy_attack variable to true.

So if Enemy.x < Hero_Distance && Player.x { // Do main movement } else { // Do attacking stuff here }

It's pure simple and basic but I believe it's what you wanted.

Learn about enemy AIs, enemy movement, distance between an object.

This has to do allot with AI so to help you first you should know about A*Pathfinding and figuring out the distance between an object and also moving from Enemy XY to the Hero's XY.

Also, you didn't specify what type of battle system this is for, action combat(seiken densetsu/zelda/mana)? or something difference.

To the one that actually does do this, this is the perfect opportunity to use events!

Just so you guys know this project was not abandoned, at the time stencyl(IMO) was not truly ready for RPGs but with the addition of Events and Freedom code that all changes.

Keep an eye out for this project!

I wouldn't worry to much when your looking at your resources in the editor, when you exit stencyl does the filesize stay the same(if nothing was added to your game) or is it larger still?
