Ask a Question / Water In Stencyl?
« on: February 12, 2015, 04:59:06 am »
Ok so I have an idea for a game that I would love to make in stencyl but Im not sure if stencyl meets the requirement. I need to have water in a cup, and the water must be able to flow out.

I want the art style to be simple so bubble looking drops of water are acceptable. Pretty much I just need the water to flow and move in a natural way (I need it to move, fall out the cup, go up the sides of the cup, fly up if the cup is dragged down etc..)

Any tipds guys? or is this just not possible in stencyl?

Ask a Question / Masking?

I want to make a custom health bar that is an actor and I would like to use the health manager behaviour to fill the health bar. Can I make the health manager bar using the health bar (actor).

To make my question clearer can I only have the health visible through the health bar (actor) that is primarily a border?

Ask a Question / Creating a health bar
« on: February 05, 2015, 08:25:08 am »
I want to create a health bar for my main actor. I know the basic logistics of how it works but I am not sure how to draw the health bar on screen.

I want to have a character face plate (A circle in the top tight of the screen with the characters face in it) I the want a red border around that circle that empties (top to bottom, not around the circle) as you health lowers. Would this be best achieved with frames or is there a better way to do this?

Resolved Questions / How to set stop movement whilst attacking?
« on: February 05, 2015, 01:15:31 am »
I am using the 8 way movement behaviour and I have 3 different attacks (I call them Attack X, Attack Y, Attack Z) I want to be able to press the attack key (Z, X, or C) and have the attack animation play. Only catch is I want movement to stop while its playing, even if the movement key is being pressed and then resume once its finished playing. How would I) go about achieving this?

Ask a Question / How To Damage Player Via. Health Manager?
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:11:21 am »
Ok so I'm using the health manager to keep track of my players health and I just needed to know how to damage the player. I cant seem to find any game attributes. If I had a collsision between one actor (Player) and another actor (Enemy) how would I decrease the palyers health by 10 via health manager?

Ask a Question / Health Manager Not Working Correctly
« on: February 01, 2015, 06:27:31 am »
Ok so am using the health manager and I have chosen the values 100 for starting health and 100 for max health. Yet for some reason when I start the game the actor is not on screen and the health bar is gone.

I changed the option for when health is 0 to do nothing from kill actor and the actor and health bar are onscreen but the amount of health in the health bar is tiny and shows the value of being under 25%.

It would seem as if im starting with no health when I shouldnt be. Has anyone else experienced this and is their a possible solution anyone can think of?

The subject pretty much sums it up. I would like to create a collision group that cannot collide with a terrain box

Pretty much, i have this image below as my background and I obviously dont want my actor to into the sky or the creek so how would I hake it so that he can not enter that section of the scene?

Also the image is just a sketch for testing purposes :)

Obviously as an animation goes through each frame there is a change of some sort. What I wanted to know was can I create different collision bounds for each frame?

Ask a Question / How to switch beteen running and attacking animations
« on: January 31, 2015, 09:03:17 pm »
I want to make it so that the player is running (holding right arrow key) but if they attack (tap x) the onscreen actor stops, play the attack animation and then continues running. How would this be best achieved? As it is now it goes to play the attack animation but instantly starts running again

Ask a Question / How to smoothly switch animations?
« on: January 31, 2015, 10:02:18 am »
Ok so I am using the 8 way movement generic behaviour and I want to be able to move in a direction (lets say right to keep it simple) and attack (press x)

How would I have the run animation playing, play the attack animation all the way through and then as soon as that is complete go back to the run animation?

Also another similar question. If i wanted the character to stop moving while the attack animation is playing, is there an easy way to do this? Can I still be running, stop attack, and continue running.

Ive been using stencyl for about a year no and have always shrugged off the 90% memory warning and its never caused me too many issues but lately its been popping up within 5 minutes of opening stencyl. It would be an issue but after it pops up I cant do anything. Even saving just pops up with an error. Everything works fine until the warning pops up so can anyone help me fix this?

I have looked around and tried a few things.

I created the batch file as demonstarted to on another post " java -Xms64m -Xmx2048m -jar sw.jar " I even brought the number up to 4096 but still the same issue straight away.

I could be placing the batch file in thye wrong spot but its not specified in the post so I assumed it goes in the stencyl folder under 'program files'

Im using windows if that helps

Please reply, I need to work on this project urgently

Ask a Question / How to create a shopping cart hero clone
« on: January 18, 2015, 02:57:04 pm »
Hello, I have an idea for a game that has never been done before that I would like to begin working on but it contains the same mechanics as shopping cart hero (don't worry, all together it won't resemble it a lot) so the easier way of asking my question is; How would one create a shopping cart hero clone?

I understand stencyl pretty well and I'm pretty good at maths so I should be ok but I just need that initial push in the right direction

Ask a Question / Animating characters and Weapons
« on: January 12, 2015, 07:21:54 pm »
I am working on a game where there are a few characters (lets say 10) and quite a few guns (let's say 50) and I'm looking for the best way to animate the characters holding the guns. Would it be best to create a set of animations for each gun and each character ( this is a lot of work, it would be extremely unproductive) or is there a better way to do this?

I was thinking I might be able to do one animation holding a gun except there is no gun (his hands are empty) and then draw each gun and put them in seperately but I don't know how well that would work.

What would you guys suggest is the best way to tackle this?

Resolved Questions / String Should Be Int?
« on: November 24, 2014, 04:53:53 am »
I try to run my game and constantly get the error "string should be int" I dont quite know what it means as im not a programmer :) any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you need any more information the problem highlights the block "set variable to ['number']" in my event. Only a few of the set variable blocks are highlighted with the values being 1.5, 1.25,1, .8, .65 Hope this helps :)
