um...I've encountered a problem in the stage where you need to craft the first axe .

Any help.

other than that issue i have no doubt that this game is awesome.

the wood needs to go into the first slot of the crafting and the axe head needs to go into the second slot. that is the ONLY way to make it.  I hope this is what your problem was and I hope this helped ^_^

I also found a bug (or managed to crash the game)? I'd just left my house and talked to the old man. I went into the workshop and crafted an axe. I noticed it wasn't equipped when I left the workshop so I went into my inventory and tried to equip it. It wasn't really obvious, but when I tried to go back to the game I couldn't leave my inventory. I tried going back into the various 3 menu choices and then back out, but I couldn't leave the menu system. I had to refresh the tab and load the game again (but I didn't bother as it was downloading really slowly!).

alright, so you cannot get back to the game.. you are stuck at the menu with the three options.. this is because we do not have a button on the screen to leave. we will add that but for now what you need to do is click the same key as you do to open the inventory.  hope this helps.

We have some good news :D

Our plans are running smoothly now and haven;t run into too many big problems.  We have implemented a few new things such as looting, and added some new graphics and items.

We will be looking for beta testers to test out how well the game is running so far.  There will be more news about this in a bit.

I'm still thinking what I thought before though, the game can still use a lot of improvement. I'd go back to the drawing room and try to figure out how the game could be improved and what should be added.

Or it would be an even better idea to take this game maybe fix up a few things take your new knowledge and start fresh making a new game.  The more practice you get the better organized you will become and the faster you will be at improvising new ideas and interesting features to your game.

Paid Work / Re: I make graphics for your game for free!
« on: May 18, 2012, 03:17:47 pm »
Hi everybody,
I had just started to get interested in making graphics. I´m not skilled, made my first digital drawing this week, so this is mostly if you have made a small game. I will make textures for free, because i think this is the best way i can get better at making digital art. Please write some detailed informations about your game, if you want me to make some graphics for it (i can only make pixel art). If you don´t need help, then please give some challenges that i can learn a lot from (like make a 64x64 pixel drawing of a piece of food, make a drawing of a house, etc.).

hey yeah, I have some requests actually :D I am making a game called renewal and if you would like I could pm you a few things you could try out and maybe we could put some in our game, or change it a little bit, but we are a small team so some help would be nice.

so would you like me to pm you?

It's nice to see that you guys take criticism seriously, it's nice to know your ideas are actually being implemented, instead of going to waste.
The new weapons look pretty cool, but I have to point out that the kitchen knife doesn't really look like a kitchen knife, as the handle is very centered to the blade, a normal kitchen knife, or at least the ones I'm used to, has the handle more on the back.
Further, thank you for explaining the World Beyond to me, a few suggestion I have would be the Wastelands or something generic like Infected Area.
I like the idea of having several towns, the coolest thing about it would be that you can actually visit other towns, I really like the idea of raiding other villages and I'm pushing you to implement that.
Another thing that would be cool is a multi-player mode. Killing zombies on your own is of course fun, but doing it with friends would of course be even more awesome. I do understand though that you don't just implement a thing like that, as it takes time and effort, but I think it should definitely be something for on the to-do list.
Also, I just noticed that the side-view has a pretty oval head, I recommend making it more circular, otherwise it'd be very chibi on the front view and suddenly more realistic on the side.
On the zombies, I think they should have a more zombie fitting pose, with the arms up front, at the moment, they seem very lively. More sprites would be cool too, at the moment, you have a naked zombie and a zombie with clothes, I think there should be more variation there, zombies with just ripped shirts, zombies wearing a hat, you get the drill. Variation can really make a game.

Anyways, I don't have much left to say, it'd be nice to have some play-able version, or you should at least get beta-testers as different perspectives on things can really help.

Ok so first thing is first, yes we do take all criticism very seriously and yes the point of our game is we want everything that we want implemented.

The kitchen knife was mainly a quick go, I am attempting a few other ways of doing it and I agree, but for some reason I had people say that was one of their favourite :s  its good to see you're on my side with that one.  Its added to my list of changes.

Love the wasteland idea you got, we ran over that a couple times and its good to see that again because I am seriously thinking about that one.  That will most likely be what we will call it (hopefully) .  "I really like the idea of raiding other villages and I'm pushing you to implement that.". Duely (apparently not a word xD) noted.

MULTIPLAYER-  This was a very big thing we want too, multiplayer makes everything better and we have some amazing ideas for it.  we were actually working on this for quite some time with some luck but could not finish it and we have put it aside.  Our thoughts are getting a good networker in the future to help us out with that one.  but not till we get some interest in the game when we make it playable.

which brings me to my last point.  beta testers, we have a few more big things to impliment before letting others test it out, being smoothening gameplay and a few really big implimentations that we think are VERY important to making this game a good game such as, looting, buffs and debuffs ie. poison, crippled, adrenaline, dehydrated ect.

This is just a heads up for anyone who is interested, we have a few new guns that do not all have names quite yet.  another handgun, a revolver, and a sniper.  I also made a few different versions of each to see what we like best :D

I am currently working on some more decorations that we can put into the world beyond and the town

Shared Resources / Re: Better Results Here
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:21:32 pm »
O.K. so a "kill tile" is an actor that looks like a tile so that you can attack it.  I am pretty sure you could use an actual tile and kill that just make it differ slightly from your actual tile.  I saw a post where you can click a tile and it deletes it, berhaps you could do the same but instead of clicking, it would have to colide with your character while in the punch animation?

But I don't know much stencyl, so this is just an idea, I am trying to help out a bit, because helping you helps me.

Hope it helped? :S

Anyways, all you guys have implemented in the game so far, sounds really nice, even though it'd be nice to get some elaboration on the "Renewal is a zombie survival game that will be completely different every time you play." Because that's quite a statement you're making.
Also, I'd like to give some suggestions for the World Beyond, but also this would require some more information about the world.

Nonetheless, it all sounds very promising, but it'd be nice to have some visual (and perhaps even playable) previews for the game.

thank you, :) I just thought I would show some interest in what you were saying here as I find everything you have said so far very interesting and helpful.  The world beyond is basically a place you go to fight zombies and collect resources. The town is a safe area for you to keep your cool away from zombies, but as soon as you step foot outside of the town that is what we are currently calling "the world beyond".

The first area you are in when you first step outside of the town will just be a level 1 or very easy area.  It will consist of very weak and low profit zombies that have a random moving system, but when you go out farther we plan on having stronger zombies that will start to follow you if you get too close ect. ect.

Now for the world being different every time.  we have some very big plans for this mostly being stores and other buildings that are in different locations every time you play.  In one world you might gett lucky and find your town surprisingly close to a hospital or clinic, but once you die and join a new town there might not be a very useful building within reach at first for a while.

Another thing we plan on doing is making possibly other smaller towns or villages that may or may not have people in them, they might just be for raiding purposes.  Hidden secrets that can be in some things that will be rare but can be in any object like notes of some sort that give spoiler on how to make things or maybe blueprints.  We have thought about many of these and in the near future will be implementing some of these.

satisfied or would you like to hear more? :)

Ask a Question / how to make an interactive pop up?
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:00:24 pm »
SO, if you did not know me and my two brothers are making a game which is currently called Renewal.  By all means check it out, but thats not why I am here.  I am here to ask for help with a pop up interactive box of some sort. O.K. so here it goes.

what we want is a pop up box for when looting a killed zombie or for looting anything else like a bag or a garbage bin ect.  a pop up that pops up any time you are looting anything.

e.g.
http://community.stencyl.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=10615.0;attach=10134 here we have a quick screen shot of outside the town.  Do you see those zombies there? well when you walk up to one of them it will put you into a battle scene.  When you win (and for the love of god, lets hope you win ;) it will bring you back to this screen shot, then dim it down and a pop up will pop up with the items that you are able to take or loot from the downed zombie.

I would really appreciate this, and you will forever be in my debt!

thanks,
Skye
