Chit-Chat / The New Year Thread
« on: December 31, 2013, 10:42:01 am »
The Year of Luigi is ending in some parts of the world, in others it already ended.

So, did you liked it? What are your goals next year?

(I did not liked it, but it had good moments tho. My goals are: launch better games, launch the non-game related stuff I'm preparing, learn to animate and draw better, learn fully a programing language)

intervalo is a game where you move your character in a sole period of time. after that, the character will move with the timing of your presses.

controls:
-enter to set direction/change texture
-r to reset
(you can change volume with '/+, although i don't know if flixel hotkeys change depending on the keyboard scheme)

Chit-Chat / Re: Company Name/Logo
« on: November 29, 2013, 05:27:17 pm »
It's not a company (since it's not legally seen as such, it's closer to a pseudonym), but I chose Star Monolith because it's unique and sounds cool to me. "Manuel Magalhães", while it sounds more personal, it doesn't seem to be as memorable. (i had people asking me how to pronounce my last name, so that's not a good sign)

Really interesting, game feel is something I need to improve on my games. I'm on a Mac right now but I'll give it a shot when I'm closer to a Windows machine. Thanks for posting this.

Buy it, use it, break it, fix it
Trash it, change it, mail upgrade it
Charge it, point it, zoom it, press it
Snap it, work it, quick erase it

Write it, cut it, paste it, save it
Load it, check it, quick rewrite it
Plug it, play it, burn it, rip it
Drag and drop it, zip unzip it

Lock it, fill it, curl it, find it
View it, coat it, jam unlock it
Surf it, scroll it, pose it, click it
Cross it, crack it, twitch update it

Name it, rate it, tune it, print it
Scan it, send it, fax, rename it
Touch it, bring it, pay it, watch it
Turn it, leave it, stop format it

Chit-Chat / Re: Kids these days, don't know their roots.
« on: November 02, 2013, 06:46:07 am »
I think kids shouldn't watch Pacific Rim before Citizen Kane. They should know their roots, after all. They should be forced to see the best movies from the late 1800's to this year.

After that, they can own a copy of Pacific Rim.

A few days I read a pretty good article on forming habits.

http://braingale.org/forum/index.php?topic=105.0

You should read it in full, but the gist is that you should use a cue (to remind you to work on your games) so that you create a routine (working on your games) and with it be rewarded (get games done). A suggestion would be making Stencyl auto-start with your computer, alongside with any other productivity software that you might need. Soon this will form an habit and you will get more games done (and getting better at making them) more easily.

To aid I also like the Pomodoro strategy. (I use this Chrome extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/strict-workflow/cgmnfnmlficgeijcalkgnnkigkefkbhd?hl=en , but there's other software with the same technique).

Well, this is sad.
In this state of affairs, I bet there's going to be a Sonic game where Sonic collects Sonic© Rings™. (I hope that doesn't end up happening, though...)

Chit-Chat / Re: what type of music is your favorite?
« on: September 28, 2013, 03:26:59 pm »
So I like anything electronic, classical, and instrumental. Any suggestions for more types of music like this that I might have missed out on?
Some musicians you might like: Motor City Drum Ensemble, Akufen, Gesaffelstein, Siriusmo, Broke One, Maya Jane Coles, Autechre, RMNC, Justice, Shadow Dancer, Strip Steve, Ninetynine, Lone.

I used to play John Cage's 4'33 at parties, but then it got too mainstream for me.
