Ask a Question / Static images in app
« on: November 22, 2015, 05:01:48 am »
I´m developing an educational app with text-sound-image combination, and need to store 250 images, 250px by 250px.
I have previously used an actor and stored each image as a single frame animation, which works up to what I´ve used (25 animations), and makes it easy to create the actor and setting the correct animation.
Now I´m wondering if there´s a limit to the number of animations for an actor, or if I´ll run into space problems.

Anybody been there?

Publishing to the iOs  AppStore using 3.4.0  on a Mac works flawlessly!
Way to go,  Jon&co!

Ask a Question / When actor is killed
« on: October 27, 2015, 03:11:16 am »
Just wondering:
If "When  actor is killed" is used in a scene behavior, will code referring to properties of the killed actor be valid? For example if I try to get an actor value from the actor.  Or is it already non-existent? If  so, I´ll work around it by saving values before it is killed.

Resolved Questions / Build failed
« on: October 14, 2015, 04:26:56 am »
Picked up Stencyl again last night, and things have definitely moved forward! I loaded a game which has been built and submitted to App Store, but in 3.4 it´s not very welcome. Loaded, converted, cleaned, but failed to build.
I am on Mac, El Capitan, Stencyl latest build, Xcode 7.0.1,   Command Line tools 10.10 and Java 8.60.
Log attached.
Not sure, but it seems it does not find fonts that are really there....

Ask a Question / Is this possible?
« on: February 03, 2015, 01:24:18 am »
To import text from device clipboard and present it fullscreen using a custom font. I´m thinking of a system to improve readability of a selected text.

I need a few likes on my facebook page for my Stencyl games. You may not understand much of the Norwegian, but it´s Stencyl, so what´s not to like?  ;)

iPhone / iPad / Android / The advantage of reusable elements

like scoring system, startup sequence, atlas structure, good fonts, is that while you wait for the one that makes you filthy rich you can be productive on whatever good ideas you have, and generate a lot of small sellers. I´ve done this, and you never know, one of them might be the one to hit the big numbers. Meanwhile you get many that sell a little (see attachment of itunes Norwegian educational) and don´t lose motivation.  ;) And make a little money as well.  :) And have fun, most of all.

Got six new apps approved for iOS App Store today. All based on a high frequency Norwegian word list and versions of classic games (Thanks, Tuo, for the wordsearch shell). Hopefully they will do well when schools start this month.
Proof again that 3.0 works and can produce.  ;)

Game Art / Shotgun animation

Does anybody know of a PD or paid top down pump shotgun animation (just the gun, fire and reload)? I need it for a messy rat shooter.  ;)

Ask a Question / To save or not to save, that is the question.
« on: July 02, 2013, 01:34:50 am »
I have a rather large list of words (12.000) which I have to load at start as a game attribute. The list is not necessary to include in game saves as it never changes, but all game atrributes are saved, so before I try this, my question is:
Is moving content between list fast enough to:
-create a behavior list attribute
-move the game attribute list into this list
-empty the game attribute list
-save the game
-restore the game attribute list again from the behavior list
-continue game
Thus keeping the save as small as possible and still retain a complete game attribute list.
I would also have to do this on loading the saved state.

Chit-Chat / Scammer alert!
« on: April 03, 2013, 01:48:58 pm »
I bought Spriteworks 1.0 from http://www.spriteworks.com/sworks.html#.UVyUaL9wTfY
Collection looked OK and seemed like it might trigger ideas.
Website looked a bit dated, but copyright was updated to 2013 and PayPal order worked, well at least paying $20 worked.
No delivery made and no download link provided, no reaction on mail or support site. (I did get a support ticket, but it never got answered.)
Not such a big deal, but when you sell you should deliver. >:(

Chit-Chat / Google play Catch 22
« on: March 12, 2013, 06:49:33 am »
First impressions on Google Play.
It´s harder to get noticed/found than on Apple Mac appstore.
This is because GP does not have a recent additions list in categories or a keyword search, on Apple Mac store that´s at least a few days of exposure in a list that users browse. (iOs Appstore has dropped this feature, too, but has keyword search)
The catch 22 is:  To get noticed you have to sell. And to sell you have to get noticed.
What it boils down to is that, to break the catch, marketing must be done elsewhere, linking to GP and generating sales that gets you on a browse list.

Chit-Chat / New toy!

Nothing to do with Stencyl, but I just got a Raspberry Pi to play with. It´s tiny and fun and runs (my first attempt of anything) XBMC like a dream, HDMI 1080 output and sound through my surround rig, with remote control from my iPad! Beats my Christmas gifts!  :)
Recommended!
Now for an SD card with Linux, and maybe Stencyl! Just to see if it works.   ;)

Chit-Chat / My one year Stencyl anniversary!
« on: December 13, 2012, 01:03:43 am »
Not to brag, but to show what Stencyl makes possible for those of you who are starting out!
This has been an amazing year! A year ago I signed up for my Stencyl subscription, and today I am infinitely grateful for the excellent work the Stencyl team has done in 2012, and for the excitement and possibilities their work has given me. Last year I would never have imagined it possible to re-enter the developing scene, and now, one year later, I have 15 apps in the iOs appstore. No rockets, but steadily selling, 8400 sold from January to November. I have been given government support and developed for local clients, and have made 28k in my spare time, making it possible to revive my dormant company. Now I am moving (carefully) to 3.0, have opened developer accounts for android and windows, and am optimistically looking forward to what 2013 may bring.
A huge thanks to Jon and the team! Without you this would never have happened. Keep up the good work in the year(s) to come! :)

Chit-Chat / Mac app store. Worth it?
« on: November 30, 2012, 05:17:58 am »
Does anybody have any experience with the Mac app store. I see that it´s another $99 a year to register for Mac Dev program and even though that is not such a huge amount, I wonder if the market isn´t more business/creative focused then games/education. It is rather thin on the games-edu side, so I´m unsure. Anyone tried?
