Hello everyone,

I started to make a new game yesterday. I've ended up with so many unfinished projects and I really want to be able to have a new complete game to play.

The idea behind this one is similar to The Poppytales, in that it's a game where you play as characters from across my games and other stuff I've made and fight bosses. I'm trying to make this as simple as possible for me to do, since with The Poppytales it was getting a little difficult. I'd made about 20 characters, a bunch of whom had their own unique mechanics, and it was going well, but it felt like a bit too much for me.

So, this new game doesn't have a name yet, and I've made 3 out of a planned 81 playable characters (which I feel is better than 100+, and I did finish a game in the past with 64, so I feel like 81 isn't too much). Of course if I really wanted to I could go back and add more, since the amount of characters I've created for games and other stuff is a very high number.

At the moment, Poppytail, Easter Bunny and Gremlin Girl are in the game (this trio originates from my first Poppytail game), and about half the playable characters are planned to be from Poppytail games 1-4. There are two from Century Game too, but the rest are new characters who aren't associated with any other projects.

This leaves a lot of room for possible additions in the future, if that's what I choose. But for now, I want to stick with this smaller roster of characters.

I've also gone back to my crappy art style. The game's not going to have very good art/animations, and I think I'm okay with that. I tried making art by hand drawing it, but it was tedious to make and implement. So I'm going back to drawing everything in Pencyl.

Working on the first boss at the moment. I'm hoping that this game will be a lot quicker and easier to make.

I'm also changing up something that characters had in Easter Fun 2 (the aforementioned game I made with 64 playable characters): their attacks. In EF2, the characters all had attacks related to them, such as Daggercat throwing daggers, for example. Instead with this game I wanted to make a weapon system similar to Cuphead, except each character is locked to an elemental type and two weapons. I've come up with 11 weapon ideas, and 4 have been implemented into the game so far. They will also change colour depending on the element of the user (for example, fire characters will have red attacks, water will have blue, etc.).

I think for now I'll try and keep my other projects out of my mind. I don't want to say I've cancelled them, but I think it'll be easier for me to focus on one game at a time.

Chit-Chat / Website Possibly Taking From the Forums

Hey there,

I recently decided to Google the title of my book I wrote from years ago, and I found a lot of my old forum posts here (because my games have made many references and crossovers to the book).

Anyway, I found a website called xmfahaisi.org. From Googling "xmfahaisi" it seems like there's a bunch of Stencyl forum posts in the descriptions on Google. I was wondering what was going on with that? Is this some kind of malware site?

Just thought I'd bring it to people's attention.

Ask a Question / Stencyl Game with most Playable Characters?

This isn't really a question about making a game, but I wanted to know the answer to which Stencyl game has the largest amount of pre-made playable characters? One of mine (Easter Fun 2) has 64 in total.

This is just out of my own curiosity.

Hi,

In a game that I'm working on, I recently changed the screen size to make whole levels fit on screen (I changed it from 640,480 to 896,480). Only problem is now that the backgrounds I was using no longer move when the player does in larger scenes.

Pencyl (which I'm using on an old version of Stencyl because in the current version I'm using Pencyl doesn't work) won't let me increase the size of the image and I'm worried that even if I did do that, it would take up a lot of memory/storage. So I wanted to know if there was a way to have that effect I used to have with the new screen size without modifying the size of the image?

I'm currently working on a game that will be storing a few bits of information for each character I add into the game. I'm also planning on making multiple saves for this game, so the maps for each character will be added in three times. I was wondering if there was a limit on how many game attributes can be used in a game?

Every character can be obtained through collecting in-game Easter eggs. Alternatively, they can be purchased using money via GameJolt packages.

When I try to enable the dialogue extension with build 10495 or the data structures extension, I get an error message that says to report the error to the forum. Do I need to update the extension to get it to work or something?

Hi,

I'm using individual actors in one scene to represent each unlockable character in a game I'm working on. So I know which actor represents which character, I named each of the actors in the scene manager after their characters. What I need to do is check whether the name of that actor in the scene manager is present in a list (of the characters the player has unlocked), so that the game displays this information correctly.

I'm working on a game where the player increases their score by collecting Easter eggs. However, the game crashes on Flash and on Windows when I try to collect an egg. As long as I don't destroy the eggs, everything seems to be fine, but I don't understand why killing them gives this error or how to fix it.

Hi,
For one of my games, I need to be able to access game attributes by their name in text. The reason why I need to set this up is because I need to access the values corresponding to keys in these map game attributes. The game has multiple playable characters, and each one has their own map (which contains character statistics). Each map game attribute has a keyword at the beginning (which is the same for all of them, and so that the stat maps for all of the characters are all grouped together when listed in alphabetical order), followed by the name of the character. The characters the player can use are kept in a list game attribute, so when trying to access the maps, I had the following code:

value of x for value of game attribute with name y & get item number #z from a

(Where x is the key in the map, which has the name of the stat, y is the keyword at the beginning of all of the stat maps, z is the item number in the list, and a is the list game attribute)

A problem I realised was the block I was using was "value of game attribute with name" instead of "game attribute with name". Is there a way I can get this to work?

Dialog Extension / Dialogue Extension: Face Image Messes Up Text Display

I recently downloaded the dialogue extension, and I have noticed that some of the text in the dialogue box will move off the side of the screen if I add in a face image. I am using Stencyl build 9300. Is there any way to fix this?
