What I'm trying to do is create a battle system where you can have five characters on your team at once, in a formation like this (with 1s representing a character).:

1.      1
      1
1.       1

Also, Bombini, how would I use animations for multiple characters without all of the same actor being the same character?

Anyway, thank you!

StencylForge is basically a place on the Stencyl website where you can download tilesets, behaviours, etc.

I know that most people do not attempt to make RPGs with Stencyl, but I have little to no experience with anything else.

Please reply.

Ask a Question / Re: Triggering jump and land animations.

Maybe, you could tell Stencyl to trigger the animation, then create an if statement and ask Stencyl if he anmation frame is equal to (whatever the number of the last animation frame is), and if this is true, trigger the jump.

Hope this helps.

Ask a Question / Re: How do you implement a Countdown clock?
« on: August 18, 2017, 05:26:54 am »
Gecenab,

If you need a countdown, just create a 'Do after/every _ seconds' event, and if you're using game attributes, use this:

Do every (number) seconds:
Set (attribute) to (attribute) - (number)

You could also use an if statement for that and then use an 'otherwise if':

Otherwise if (attribute) = 0
Set (attribute) to (number)*

*You could make it reset, you could just keep it at 0 and then use a different event to restart.

Also, make sure you use a drawing event if you want the clock on screen.

Ask a Question / How to do an RPG Character Roster?
« on: August 18, 2017, 05:20:37 am »
Hello,

I have been having trouble with something. I have had an idea for an RPG, and I think I have figured out how pretty much everything should work, except for the character roster.

What I want to do is have icons for the characters in a rectangular shape (sort of like a table in Microsoft Word, if you know what I mean), and be able to select multiple playable characters for the party.

For this issue I have figured out two solutions, both of which will take a while:

1) I create multiple actors for each icon, and then use game attributes to set which characters are located where (in battle, they are in a certain formation). My main issue with this is that I will have to create and program multiple actors that are only going to be used once.
2) I create one actor with multiple animations for each icon and name each animation as a number e.g. "0", "1", etc, and then create an individual behaviour for each selected character and use actor customisation from there.

Also, I'm worried about storage as well, and want to create my idea while keeping the file size to a minimum.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ask a Question / Re: Game starts at 60 FPS then declines

Squeeb,

I have had lag issues with Stencyl as well. The way I fixed my problem was I had way too many actors in one place and as the player got close to them, the frame rate would slow down. If you have too many actors in on place, maybe remove some.

I'm not sure if this is applicable to your issue, but I hope it helps.
