News / Stencyl Jam 2016 7th - 16th October

Hey everyone,

It's Stencyl Jam time again!

This year we are going for a 10 day Jam that will be hosted on Gamejolt. There will also be a theme which will be announced the day before the jam starts. Ill give more details on how to submit your game closer to the start of the jam.

Prizes will be,

1st Place $300 + Stencyl Studio license
2nd Place $150 + Stencyl Studio license
3rd Place $50 + Stencyl Studio license

Winners picked by a Jury.

But remember its mainly about having fun, trying out some new mechanics or game ideas and chatting to other Stencylers in the forums and on Discord.

Could someone give a brief crash course on how to help someone who posts logs? What do you normally look for when someone posts an error and logs in the forums. What file do you open and how do you search for potential errors?

I think this text issue has been around since the dawn of time, it doesn't show on mobile but I'm working on the flash version of Dunkers and here it is. See the image attached.

Hello, I'm getting the below error when trying to draw a list, I have narrowed it down to this block, the error only shows when this block is in the drawing event.

Its not out yet, but I'm having a slow day so thought id start making the thread. Its going to launch on the 21st of July on iOS and Android.

Its like a basketball version of Wrassling, taking inspiration from Bouncy Basket ball which took inspiration from Soccer Physics.

I think its quite good fun.

It may have been that the SWF was corrupted, I got a different SWF working using the behaviour.


Im getting a game ready for a flash sponsor and the load SWF behaviour is giving me an error, does anyone know what this means and if it is fixable.

I have attached a screenshot, Im guessing that the behaviour is maybe out of date?

Hi, I'm trying to set my art editor to a mac app called seashore and my audio to Audacity, but when I try to chose them in the preferences in stencyl it just opens the folders. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

The team and I broke 2 million total downloads from our 6 games today.

Feels great, I was so proud of my 50 downloads a day when my first game launched. Then my mind was blown when my second game got featured and got 16k in one day. My most recent game, Epic Flail got 80K downloads on its second day of feature in best new games last week.

Big thanks to the Stencyl team for making my dreams come true. Also a big shout out to all the people who have helped me and chatted to me over the last couple of years.

Really looking forward to the rest of this year making more games with stencyl.

Chit-Chat / A couple of things missing from Stencyl

Thanks to Stencyl I have a relatively stable business with my apps, Well over 1 million downloads and now with some cross promo between my games things are becoming more stable with every release.

Ive been to a few functions, most recently PocketGamer Connects in Helsinki and chatted with other Devs and Im almost starting to shake of the feeling of being an imposter.

The biggest thing I noticed is that almost everyone making games professionally are using Analytics and Advert Mediation.

These are 2 things that Stencyl does not seem to Support. I can use Apple analytics but It would be nice to have something a bit more detailed and gives info from the apps on google play and amazon.

The Advert Mediation is the bigger one, this was a consistent thing I heard from all the other devs big or small, everyone has some sort of 'waterfall' mediation going on.

Are there any plans for these things to be integrated into stencyl?

Hello fellow Stencylers,

Folmer, George and I released a new game yesterday, Wheelie 2. Its a follow up to our very first game Wheelie Legend.
Its a simple arcade high score chaser, based around wheeling a dirt bike, unlockable characters etc.

Special mention also goes to SadiQ for the random terrain behaviour!

Got some good features from Apple, Best New games in most of the big countries in Europe, Best New games but in the see all tab in the US and China, but still happy with that.

Fixed Bugs (3.x) / On Screen Button, touch ID issue (Solved)

Since updating I'm having issues with the onscreen button behaviour using touch ID. Now when pressing and holding a button, pressing and releasing anywhere else on the screen with the other finger triggers the release event for the first touch. So I'm holding my left button down then  press and release anywhere on the screen, on release the left button Is released even though my finger is still down on it. Im on build 8723.

I just did a simple test, If touch is started, if x of touch is less than screen width /2, set touch(bool) to true. Then set it to false on release, still with the less than screen with in place. Bool sets to true when I touch, but touching and releasing anywhere else on the screen, even on the far right causes the bool to turn false. Then for some reason if I touch again so both fingers are down, the bool goes back to true.

iPhone / iPad / Android / Battle Golf- Out on iOS and Android

Well Folmer, George and I are at it again,

We released Battle Golf yesterday and we got a Best New Games Feature, Seems to be a pretty global feature. Its also featured on iPad in 15 funniest games, I think it was supposed to be for Wrassling but since I didn't upload a iPad preview video they used Battle Golf. Wrassling is in 15 Funniest games on iPhone. So make sure you Upload iPhone and iPad preview movies.

Battle Golf was just supposed to be a little fun project, we wanted to make a local 2 player version of our second game Golf is Hard. The Dev time was real quick, just 2 weeks. Luckily Apple seemed to think it was feature worthy!

34K downloads yesterday which I think is pretty crazy considering it was only featured for half the day. Wrassling only did 5K in that time period although i think the feature started a bit later in the day.

Im interested to see how it does, its fun but its no Wrassling.

Ask a Question / Sound issues when using channels.

Hi,

I found a post about this in the forums but it was closed and the solution was using code blocks that I didn't understand. Im fading in and out a sound on a specific channel, every 1 in 7 times the sound won't play, I'm guessing its because of the "no available channels" thing.     Original post -> http://community.stencyl.com/index.php/topic,35511.msg204599.html#msg204599

Any ideas on how to fix this, also how many sound channels are there?

So I got an e-mail today telling me my Apple dev licence expires in 30 days. Its been a great year, a dream come true really, worked with some great people and learned a lot of good stuff. I thought id give you a brief breakdown how how things have gone revenue and downloads wise. The revenue is before I have paid shares to the good people I have worked with over the year, I'm not going to go into any detail about percentages etc.

3 games, Wheelie Legend, Golf is Hard, Wrassling

440K downloads in total on iOS

iADS $793                        (only Wheelie Legend)

iAP $1,520                       (Golf and Wheelie $1 to remove adverts, Wrassling $1.99)

Admob $19,032            (All 3 games have Admob interstitials)

ChartBoost $6,011    (Only Wrassling)

All thanks to Stencyl and the awesome people I've met through it, looking forward to another good year.
