Chit-Chat / Re: Ideas for Custom Blocks?
« on: July 16, 2012, 03:49:03 pm »
I have an idea for a custom block:
A block that allows global variables (game attributes) to be not-saved when the game saves.
As in for one particular game attribute.

Not a likely thing to happen but if it did that would be AWSOME!

My game is called "Island survival" you can walk around getting food and water to survive, its a survival game. You can chose to do two things(Theres 2 goals):
1.Gather supplies that wash up on shore and after you have 25 supplies (you get 5 each) press Z to build a boat to leave the island.

2.Have fun trying to see how long you can survive.

Have fun playing.

Resolved Questions / Re: I dont know how to make it load levels.

Either there is a language barrier here, or you are not fully reading what people are trying to tell you.

You do not save the scene itself. What you save are the properties of each actor in the scene in game attributes so they can be loaded later. This can be pretty complicated if you're trying to store more than just the player's properties. I would suggest you come up with a design that doesn't require everything in the scene to be saved, but if you really want to do it that way, you'll need to play around with game attributes and the save/load blocks until you are comfortable with them. I would suggest making a "test" game to do this so you can play around with anything without worrying about messing something up in your "real" game.
No one is getting it...Oh well, I fixed it myself anyways.

The first one only not there progress thru the scene just the scene there on so they can return to the scene later.

For all the information that you need to 'remember' when the player returns to the scene, you will need to store it in a game attribute, then, when you return to the scene, each actor, etc will need to look up its position, health, etc in the relevant game attribute and set itself up accordingly.

For example, if you have an enemy in a particular location, you would store its x,y coordinates in a game attribute and then when the scene is reloaded, the enemy would recover its x,y position from the game attribute and position itself.

If you have a lot of information to record, you will probably want to us a game attribute list and store the information using comma separated values. To do this, you would use the 'get item from list' block.
Ive tried but theres no game attribute for scenes.

How do I use it to work with the S and L buttons?

Create a behaviour that saves when you press S and loads when you press L.

You'll find the details for setting up keyboard controls and also loading/saving game attributes in the Stencylpedia.
And by default I cant load the level or save it, WILL SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO DO THIS?!

I did and it dosent work with levels, just scores. Does it have to be the same behavior?
