Ask a Question / building a video player

I plan on adding video (Mp4 or FLV depends on what is supported in the answer) to my guitar learning app.  but I  need the video to reside locally on the device rather than be streamed from the web.  Is this a possibility using stencyl?  Would I have to learn haxe and make one for stencyl? Can someone point me in which direction I need to go to accomplish this task?  I don't wind up researching and learning the wrong thing?  Thanks.

Yeah i made a new game made one scene and added an actor.  But I found the tablet wasnt in developer mode.  It wasnt like the andriod phone i had used previously which is why it took me a bit to figure out.  once I got it unlocked the device monitor could see it just fine.

Thanks for the reply. I did manage to download everything conceivable in the download manager but there were two things i noticed. 1.) it no longer mentioned that i needed to download the sdk. And 2.) it would stay in a loop "writing to device". When i checked in device monitor, the tablet was not listed. However I could read and write files to it. Heres what was missing. I had to go into the tablet options, find the build number and tap it 7 times to place it into developer mode. Once that was done, device monitor saw it and i was able to write to it. Heres where i found the info.

Ive been successful in sending to android devices with version 4.1.2.  Now I have a new android device that contains version 5.1.1  Stencyl says to upgrade my android SDK to build for anything bewer than api 16.  Ive reinstalled the android SDK from the debug menu.  It downloads 6 zipfiles and installs them.  after restarting Stencyl, I am still told to install a newer SDK.  Am I doing something wrong?  Apparently downloading it directly from google requires that you download android studio which I have.   Ive managed to download the sdk, but now I just get an error.  Ive posted the Logfile.  I'm tying to write to a iRulu tablet.

Ive searched but alas there is more pertaining to release versions of stencyl than I can count.  Is there a way to call for the version of the app and assign it to a variable so It can be seen in a setup menu?  Thanks

First you create code to generate a number from 1 to whatever.   Use an attribute to hold the number and set it using "random integer between 1 and 5 ".  Then you use the attribute to call the scene.   Id post code but im away at the moment.

After spending years with basic, visual basic, c & c++, I could program alot of things, however i really wanted to make a game which is on my bucket list. Stencyl allows you to get into the meat and potatoes of not having to worry about redraws, framerates, animations, and all the other overhead stuff that goes on behind the scenes just to make the game start. you can dive right into the actual creative aspect which most people fail to get to when using a programming language from the ground up.   If you already have your artwork done, half the work is finished and you can start the developing process. Now it was a little but of a learning curve since i was used to global and local variables and calling classes from within a program but im getting a handle on its inner workings and the sky is the limit. Ive used game maker, even bought it but was not as impressed with it as I am with this program. Once i have my game done, ill set out to give these guys the money they deserve and be well on my way. NICE JOB!

here's what i used to make my character move 32 pixels at a time..  use during the update event.  I posted the actual "up" event then the update event.  Gives it that "old school feel"

Since you are just starting out, there should be no harm in just uninstalling stencyl, and cleaning out the directory "your name"\appdata\roaming\stencyl.  Then reinstalling.  There may be some more places that you may have to check but before you do that, let's hear what some of the more experienced users have to say before you follow my advice though.

I needed some help in this too, so I followed Abigayl's code.  It was a lil outdated (4 yrs ago) & I'm sure since the post is so old and that we are now at version 3.4.0 beta that some things may not "jive" anymore.  I'm still new to this environment but i managed to extrapolate this new edition from Abigayl's original code .  I use it to show help at a certain Xy of the screen when the mouse is hovered over the button actors when creating a character in my RPG.  Hope this helps someone like it helped me!!!  Enjoy!
