Ask a Question / Constant Customization?
« on: February 03, 2014, 09:05:47 am »
I couldn't find a thread already on this, but if there is, please tell me.

Anyway,in the game I'm currently working on, I'm aiming to include an element of customization, more specifically of the environment. The idea I'm going for is similar to a farmville or minecraft style sort of thing, where the player can place or take away blocks and items. The issue I'm having is that when the game switches in between scenes , the game will lose the positioning of the blocks. The only way I could think of doing this would be to save the coordinates of each block as a part of (giant) game variable array, and have them save when the scene is left, and then load and recreate the blocks as the scene comes back. Is there a better way to do this? That just seems like one ridiculous mess.

Thanks for any help!

From a purely artistic standpoint, I'd suggest working on the point of view for your sprites. For example, the walls are all drawn from a directly top down perspective, while the character looks slightly angled, and the chairs and tables are a sort of isometric side view sort of thing. Generally, you'll want to keep them matched.

Sorry, this is a bit off topic, but I'd like to see a sort of "road rage" function built in, where the crane is used to purposefully destroy things. Just saying :D

Personally, my favorite is GraphicsGale. It's basically ms paint on steroids. It'll help with animations too.

A very nice start. I love the look of the graphics.  I'll agree with gruffman though. The sword does feel a bit cramped.

Did you read it?

This is going to be AWESOME.

One suggestion though. In redwoods preview one, you have what looks like a simple background-ey thing. However, even though it is so simple, it adds a surprising amount of depth to the scene. Maybe replicate that in the other levels?

Okay honestly,

Alot reminds me directly of

Having a curse word as your title probably isn't ideal.

Medini isn't all that bad, in fact I kind of like it, but I'm not sure how well it will stand on it's own.  (I mean recall wise). Maybe add some words to it?

That could definitely be interesting. Provided you set up the player trap-ey things correctly, this game could be pretty hilarious. I wish you luck!

I'm dreadfully confused.

Confusion can work in games too - it adds to the excitement.

I'm dreadfully confused.

Goodness. You're ambitious. I like the idea behind it, but honestly, that's a MASSIVE amount of work you're looking to do. At the very least, forming some sort of team would probably be a good idea. I wish you luck though. :D

As in locking into a grid, or making it so that the towers can be placed anywhere?

I definitely like the theory and concept behind the game so far. I can't wait to play the full version.
