Super Metroid and Metroid prime.
SSBM: it was my introduction to gaming in general.
Third age: Total war mod. I REALLY hope sega makes their own LOTR game someday.

1. one thing i find frusturating is that if I have one actor i need to program an event in and want to get some value from another actor I have to use a global variable (which gets messy fast if i have the x,y cordinates of 20 actors in a scene plus all the normal stuff you put into a global variable), or the actors have to collide with each other. I havent really played around with lists and the answer might lie somewhere in there but theres got to be some way to grab an attribute dirrectly. especially the x,y cordinates of specific actors. (i also do not have the actors present at the beginning of the game if that makes a difference because the player needs to build them)

This could be the solution to ur first question. Use it with events like collision with actors, and access local properties of colliding actors.
