Dunno if this helps any, but here's what i ended up doing to preserve my idle animation and still have my animation switch on Action2 (this is at the bottom of an Always event that dictates all of my running/jumping:

YUP, fixed mine.  I went into the events for the "jump and run movement" behavior and unplugged the following:

otherwise if facing left: switch animation to idle left animation for self
otherwise: switch animation to idle right animation for self


Now my other switch animation isn't being overridden.

I'm referring to the actor behavior "jump and run movement" from the stencylforge

I've been having the same issue. I'm already using the "Jump and Run Movement" behavior on my actor... I wonder if the idle animations from that set are overriding my new animation that I'm trying to temporarily switch to...

What Photon said sounds pretty good. You could create different collision groups for each shape (actor) & it's corresponding hole (actor) and use that to determine a correct match on collision.

Tuo, I was starting to get the feeling Stencyl might not be right for this, but I wanted to give it a shot anyway. My original plan was to develop this in straightforward Flash/AS3, but I figured it was worth seeing if Stencyl might speed up the process.

Oh well, I'll probably keep tinkering with that idea while I play around with making some more simple stuff.

FYI, I am totally new to game design. I'm a pro web designer (with some front-end dev skills) with a sudden overwhelming urge to make games in my (tiny amount of) free time for fun.  Thanks a lot for your help (now and in the future).

Hey all,

I have an idea for a game that would involve using mouse or touch input to draw a series of crayon-looking lines, tracing over complicated symbols on the stage. The game would use collision detection to tell when you aren't correctly drawing on the lines and would subtract points accordingly, and would be able to tell when you've successfully traced over the entire symbol.

Has anyone seen a stencyl game with a decent drawing mechanic? I'm new and having a hard time figuring out how to write that behavior and any help/info would be greatly appreciated
