No problem, just do me a favour and don't give up on stencyl just yet, I want to see how your game turns out, it looks like you put a lot of work into it.

Check http://pwp.etb.net.co/dokuser/nuevos.html, the working port. Comments are appreciated.

The port is now a playable level which can be seen at http://pwp.etb.net.co/dokuser/griselda.html

Game Art / Re: What programs do yall use to make yalls art?
« on: August 31, 2011, 05:17:51 pm »
I usually just use graphics gale but i was wondering how people made such good graphics. Like if you look at the tilesets up on the forge, i cant get my tiles to look that polished and smooth. So I just wanted to ask what type of programs yall used and how to make such good looking tiles and sprites.

Good graphics are made by good artists. Check http://www.anim8or.com/gallery/gallery14/image3.html and the other galleries.

It's easy but beware of behavior eating langoliers.

I am gathering strength to finish it since losing the code of a week got me mad and consumed my creativity. I think I'll recode first level in Stencyl. The game will not die when or if I quit Stencyl since today I began coding it in Flash directly. It would be a lesson to compare development times since I think those are equivalent, Stencyl being a program which organizes resources, behaviors and changes keyboard coding to mouse.

When I finish porting the game, I will put a link to it from here.

Thanks. Anyway, it seems the PNG and that stuff overwrote the data. Most behavior was

if message == DIAMANTES

with DIAMANTES being CHOCOLATINAS, BOMBAS, JOYAS, ESMERALDAS, etc. It seems the bug or whatever overwrote all of my code. I will have to remake it. Cocoliso behavior was recovered and it was of great help. Unfortunately, HablarConMani, which was bigger, is almost fully lost.

Thanks for helping you two!

The game is in the forge, Grizelda is the name. I also put it as an attachment.

The problem is not with accented characters since I have the file and it does not have them. The code is huge because basically most of the game was in those two behaviors: the girl talking to activate the missions and the collisions of the main player.

I won't do it again since there is always the problem of it crashing again since the problem is not accented characters. The file does not have any. I am afraid my code will vanish again. Besides, I just began remaking it but in Flash, directly.

I will check the next build. I checked the update to 1.1 but still it is not readable. I will upload the game to the forge for others to tweak it.

I did both but Stencyl still does not show anything for the behavior.

Oh, it was "están"...  :(

No, it did not. I just tested the program and noticed the behavior was not working (but it was still there, I could see it). I restarted Stencylworks and then the behavior was gone.

>You only now (today) posted that the behavior didn't have these characters - so how was someone supposed to take the bug report to the next level before you up and "quit"?

The bug report is for the program to be fixed. The issue of saving my code is no longer relevant for me. It is better that the program is fixed.

The file got some bogus data and I do not know where it came from. Also [LOG] end [ERROR]. Even after removing them, it still does not show. Can anyone fix the file so I can recover my week's job?

Ask a Question / Discovery
« on: August 31, 2011, 10:00:16 am »
I discovered most of the users are either staff members or beta testers. This site and the chat rooms are mostly focused on advertising. New users find this confusing. You only find people (beta testers or staff) who ask simple questions about how to make things in Stencyl. They are fake questions, though, just to keep the channel and the forums alive. Anybody can notice that if he enters the chat or the forums. The forums are populated the same way... it's circular and does not add information, just bogus.

Be serious, work on the program's many bugs, those that erase information or prevent it from showing it. I quit using the program and I am moving to Flash because a script (I reported the bug) does not show. It does not have any latin accented characters and it still does not show. It’s in the forums for programmers to study. Then, when I pasted a backup version of that behavior, Stencyl erased all behaviors. Notice this is a weird bug. Instead of populating the forums with simple questions just to keep it alive, work on the program, I suggest. As I did, many people can quit and move to Flash.
Besides, Stencyl just converts keyboard to mouse. It adds advanced collision through the use of an API and loading of sounds and gfx. The rest can be done with Flash directly. So “no code required” is bogus. The user must learn to program anyway. And Flash directly has the advantage of not wiping your code.
I lost a week’s code. I have been unable to recover. Nobody has worked on the file I uploaded and fixed the problem. They just said it was accented characters but it’s not true. That’s not a way to welcome users. I hope the bug is fixed for next version. I won’t be there to test.

Fix bugs instead of filling the chatroom and the forums with questions just to deceive people into thinking there are many users asking and answering. Also, most games are not even games but incomplete examples. Many of the stuff at the forge is either not functioning (Snap to grid), outdated or both. WORK on the program and then advertise.

Bye

Now the project got lost. I have the data on another partition, but when I copy it over a backup version I had, it does not even show the project to load or when it does, it erases all the behaviors so I am unable to do anything.

That bug and the other one which erases all behaviors should be fixed. New users would quit using Stencyl as I did. I wil just use Flash. From a point of view, Stencyl just changes keyboard with a mouse, the rest is the same in Flash. And loads images and sounds... Now that I realize it I can move to Flash and my code won't ever be lost again. It was very painful to have lost the work of an entire week and I still have not recovered it. It has nothing to do with accents.

Note: the file did not have any accents or something latin... You can download it and see for yourselves. And it still does not show at Stencyl. Work on it and fix those bugs.
