Paid Work / Re: Children's Game Prototype needs coder
« on: December 27, 2012, 05:33:59 pm »
Yes, I only know how to program so much in Stencyl right now, I'm still learning the skills needed, but I'm nowhere near solo status lol.

I mentioned Google Play because that's my destined platform once Stencyl for Droid comes out because that is the cheapest and easiest route to go. To my knowledge, it's 100 bucks for developing for Itunes app store as Google Play only wants $25. That's all long term though.

The plan right now is to get help on a Flash / Windows prototype first(of course) and then go from there. :) There's room for other platforms in the future most definitely. I'm just trying not to think too far ahead as I don't have the money to publish right now anyway. Also yes, down the road we would probably split the profits.

Paid Work / Children's Game Prototype needs coder
« on: December 27, 2012, 04:43:52 pm »
All righty. So, I'm currently about to prototype a children's game, and I have most of it fleshed out and I've got it all down on paper, I am starting to prototype the concept in Stencyl. Here's some info about my project:

The Rundown:
A Shape and Color match game for Ages 3-5. The basic concept involves the player grabbing different objects and matching them up with the same object/region at the bottom of the screen. 2 different "game modes" I would have right now would be basic shape matching, and basic color matching.

I could use any code savvy people as I have my hands full right now, and I have had some trouble coding my past Stencyl projects. We can talk shop more if anyone would be interested. I can tell you this right now: I plan for this to be an app on the Google Play store in the future, as well as other prototypes I have that I'd like to turn into polished apps. As of right now, I could use another teammate to help balance the workload and provide max functionality to this prototype and bring it to life.

What's in it for you:
Credited as programmer for the game(of course)
Experience and involvement in a children's game and a fun project to work on.
Eventual involvement in the Google Play Store once Stencyl for Droid is released.

IN A NUTSHELL:
If anyone would be interested, I am a very friendly and outgoing designer simply seeking assistance for this children's game prototype. :)

Why do many people hate phil fish? Just curious  ???
A couple of reasons:
-He submitted his game twice to IGF, even when he already got a award. He even confessed it wasn't a good move, according to a Rock Paper Shotgun interview. Fortunately for the future IGF will not accept entries that already won a award.
-He was rude to a Japanese developer (I think he was a graphics engineer at Square Enix) during a IGTM talk by saying "Your games just suck." when he asked Phil's thoughts on modern Japanese games. He apologized later to the guy, though.
-He said that "gamers were the worst people" on Twitter. He still didn't apologized for it.

I can't remember more of them for now. I don't "hate" him, I think someone has to be horrible as a person for me to hate him/her. I just dislike his attitude. I might be regardless a great artist and game designer, but these things don't make me forget the others.

Also and kinda on topic: the film's part with Fish might have bias on it. Looks like Fish's former partner contacted the film makers to give his point view but they refused.

Not saying that this is Fish fault, and it's still a good movie even with Fish's parts. Just a tidbit.

Ok for one... indie devs make games FOR THEMSELVES... they are not EA or Blizzard. They don't need to impress ANY of us, but they choose to share with us so be thankful.. Also, what he said about Japanese games is right... They blow... The Japanese take on game development is SO farfetch'd compared to America.

Lastly... do you play ANYTHING online? gamers ARE bad... So much keyboard courage and smacktalk, gamers behave terribly... and there's tons of trolls I share his outlook.

HUGE inspiration, and a good movie. It gave me tons of insight seeing as I am a recent college game designer grad, I have a lot to learn. Edmund was my fave, he really spoke out to me other than the others because of his creative process and outlook on game development.

Paid Work / Re: [Free] Writing Behaviors

I'd like to take you up on this offer. I have a game I am working on. It's a match 3 game, but with both colors and position. The example I found was much too complicated and was only color matching, and I know there's an easy way. So what I want to do is this:

The blocks are spawning randomly from the middle towline of the screen. Match 3 blocks either vertically or horizontally. They have to all be the same color. Ideally, the player will use the mouse to drag them as such to combine them. I have that mouse part already working. There are 6 colors and 2 misc black and clear blocks for added effects later on. When the player puts 3 in a row of the same color one way or another, they disappear, or explode. Can you give me a hand with this? I can credit anyone if they can provide some assistance.
Thanks!

Hugh

Ask a Question / Re: StencylWorks Video Tutorials

Hey there Sunrise, been following a few videos on youtube, good stuff man. I am in the process of brainstorming a casual game and saw that you take requests.

My request is this: Can you make a tutorial that demonstrates how to give objects properties? Or how to give behaviors to certain objects in a scene?

Thanks!
