Ask a Question / Name Change?
« on: September 03, 2012, 01:12:27 pm »
I'm sure this topic comes up all the time, but I couldn't find any useful information and I sent an email a while back and never got a response.

Is there a way I can change my username from "mozzy" to "Murad" please?

Thank you.

This sounds fun. Would anyone (with a 150+ post count) like to collaborate with me? I mostly do art and design and would prefer to work with a programmer. Let me know!

I'm really confused.

That's ridiculous. Some criticism should always be ignored if it's biassed, or if it's just plain no good (like trolling!), or unhelpful or even (like in this case) it's simply uninformed.

How incredibly rude. I was simply giving advice based on my own experiences (which I have a lot of, especially with NES palettes, thank you very much) for you to go and call me uninformed is blasphemous. I know damn-well how limited palettes work. He doesn't need to add another color to change their skin tone, its all about rearranging. Before you go and belittle someone's advice, consider your own.
Thank you very much Irock and my apologies to Hypnochustla, all of this was completely unnecessary.

Here's a screenshot from my upcoming small shooter. I'm struggling to name it though. So if anyone can come up with a name based on this screenshot, I'm more than happy to hear it.  ;)

Its very rare that you'll see three completely different people with different hair colors having the exact same skin tone, I reccomend darkening the man on the left since he appears to be rugged and might be in the sun a lot. Also, I see that the eyes are a part of your style, but all three of their eyes look some what similar as well, which makes me think that its all the same people just wearing a different mask. I've had this problem in the past as well.

Question about the Standalone Desktop App option, would the game have its own icon or would it still be the flash logo?

I haven't thought much about it, but I would have levels tailored specifically for each kind of dogs. It would be fun to have secret areas though.

Hmm it suddenly decided to start working. If it happens again I'll post the log.

After editing a scene in the designer, I go to test it out only to find that the game hasn't changed at all. This includes placement of tiles, actors and change in sprites/animations and behaviors. It worked for a while but immediately stopped. I thought I just had to restart Stencyl but that didn't do anything. Any ideas on why? I'm using the 2.0 beta.

Interesting. I have a question. How many types of dogs will be in your game, and what are they?
I'm not sure yet, but no more than 4-5.

So will this play out like lemmings?

Picking dogs as your characters is a good idea, you know how people feel about their dogs :-)

My only personal criticism is with the art direction, it's pretty dark and kinda Game boy advanced looking.

I'd personally go for an environment that's more in the "world of goo"  style,  bright, simple and clean. That's just me though.

I don't know, I've never played Lemmings, I'll take a look.
And the look of this is just one area in the game, there can be many different looking stages. Mostly just place holder sprites anyway.

I meant to reply to this the other day, but got distracted.

I like the graphics style. Perhaps because it does remind me of the Gameboy (ah, memories). I think the gameplay concept is solid, as well; this type of game has a pretty broad appeal.

The question that comes to my mind first is this: how will failure be managed? If the dog hits a trap, get a bandage on its head and a tear in its eye, it will appeal to one demographic. If the dog hits a trap and dies in a bloody mess, it will appeal to another. Perhaps there is middle-ground as well.

There won't be any blood, its not a gross-out game. I can probably just have them fall off the stage similar to the Mario games.

Been toying with a concept about doggies.

In this, you play as a (maybe somewhat sadistic?) owner of various dogs who puts his pets in courses in which the dog has to collect all the bones and successfully complete the course without injury. Unfortunately, they're not the smartest dogs around and will walk forever until something gets in their way. Your job is to place various blocks, ramps, toys, etc. to help the dog along. Different dogs will have different abilities, for example, Chihuahua can fit into tighter spaces than the other dogs, PitBull can break down dirt blocks.

Here's a mockup of the style I'm going for.

I <3 Pugs.

Oh and I've been really hesitant about working on IOS games, but I think I want this to be my first try.

Yoshi's Island is to me, one of the funnest games ever. Its art style is so unique but fun and the gameplay is still very unique. It's inspired all of my work in some way.

It would be easier if you could upload it to forge with an attached example game because I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of working this out if its not exactly what I need yet. I'd really appreciate it, thanks :)

Ask a Question / Re: How to create a changing picture.

Easy option: Create an actor (or whatever it is the pictures are supposed to be), add the two pictures, adjust the animation speed (Default is 100).
