Resolved Questions / Re: Images shrinking after importing them
« on: March 07, 2014, 08:13:09 am »
Well I feel silly, I did the math again and 270x480 IS 1/4th of 1080x1920. I stupidly only did the math for 1920. 1920 / 4 = 480   but 1080 / 4 = 270. I think  before 3.00 there was information that said to import it at that resolution. So I guess I was still assuming that was true.

The only thing that is bothering me is apparently Ipads use 1080x1920 according to stencylpedia. I guess it will downscale for the ipad?

If you're creating a 320x480 mobile game import your images at 1280x1920 at 4x (That is 1280 width by 1920 height)

No the image size is 1080x1920 and the game screen is 320x480. But I think you're suppose to import images at 4x their size so they can be used on ipad and other different sized devices.

I think that if the image was 320x480 it would work yeah, but only on phones, and not ipads.

Well the resize method definitely does effect it. I tried it without any smoothing and it only made the image super large and not fit the screen at all, as if it wasn't even being adjusted, which makes sense since smoothing is off.

I think if I made an image 320x480 and imported it without smoothing it would work, but people playing it on ipad would see a gross pixelated mess, or an image that didn't fit.

basically any smoothing = image is the correct size vertically but not horizontally
no smoothing = image stays the original normal imported size regardless of resize option

I'm importing a 1080x1920 (that is 1080 width by 1920 height) image into Stencyl, and no matter what import size I select whether I choose 1x 1.5x 2x or 4x the image magically shrinks down to 270x480(Which is NOT 1/4th of 1080x1920). This is leaving the right half of the screen uncovered by the image.

The game is for mobile, and I can't test it in IOS sim until I purchase the license and everything from apple and I'm not ready yet. Any idea if it is only behaving this way in flash? Or am I importing it wrong? It has the same sizing problem in the editor too however.

Ignore the crudeness of the alpha graphics. If it was fitted correctly the screen would be perfectly sectioned off into 4 squares  by the black lines.
