Chit-Chat / Re: Ceosol's Full-Time Stencyler Journey (updated for August)

Haha, thanks for answering my unasked question :D

I think that's great that you had the courage to start something that's so different and succeeded! And games are fun both to create and play :D

I don't have any programming experience either. I studied classical music until university, where I studied literature. And now I'm a 3d modeler. Funny how things turn out in time :)

LIBERADO: Indeed :)

This is a very nice comunity, isn't it? I haven't really been active, but every now and then, when I had time to work a bit on my little game, I also checked what's new on the site and the forum. And every time I did, I found people to be very friendly and helpful :D

Hello,

Thanks for sharing these figures. I saw your other post too and I thought it's very nice of you to show this to other people and boost the morale :) Do you do this full time? Or do you have a job too? Sorry to hear about the infection, hope it clears away soon :)

Hey, this is great, well done and thank you for sharing this info, it's very encouraging :) Most people avoid saying these details, so for someone who's just starting making apps, it's quite tricky to have an idea about the income.

Do you have these games on Google Play too? I'm curious about the differences, because from my research I found  that Apple's better money-wise. Is that true?

starbound, the game equally insane compare to minecraft itself
Oh I love Starbound! Played it a looot a couple years ago. They've added so much stuff since then. I was planning on getting back to playing it when they release it, but with every update my patience decreases :)

Did anyone try Fallout Shelter? I found it to be quite fun and I can't wait for the actual Fallout :D

xcmm: I think some might do it, or maybe some companies, who don't care about quality but are more interested in quantity. I suppose that way they think every week there's a small chance for their game to become the new big hit :)

In the past I worked at a small company where I did the graphics and we did re-skinning aaall the time. We had about 5 source codes and we kept on using those. They wanted to release one game per week.  It's really frustrating  and boring working like that. But apparently the company was earning good money, especially from kids games.

Ask a Question / Re: A few tips for marketing your game

Hey there,

That's a very nice article, thank you for sharing. I'm working on my first game now and recently I started researching the marketing problem. Everything feels a bit overwhelming  at first, no wonder there are so many nice indie games that people don't know about.

How can I access the current time? Sorry if this is a simple question :)

Ask a Question / Check time passed when game's off
« on: August 18, 2015, 07:00:28 am »
Hello,

Does anyone know how to check if X amount of time has passed while a game/device is offline? I'd like to use this for a daily reward system and I can't seem to set it up, because the timer resets everytime I reopen the game.

Thank you,
Andreea

AdMob / Re: Admob wth Stecyl 3.2 unknow bug
« on: January 15, 2015, 07:20:35 am »
Yes. I had 3.0 before and I thought that maybe that's why the extension isn't working. So I did a clean install of 3.2 and downloaded the latest admob  extension. But I still couldn't get it to work. So now I use Stencyl 3.2, and the default built-in ad blocks and I have ads showing up and the game works like a charm :)

Give it a try. If all the admob details and certificate are ok in Settings and you use those blocks, then it should work. Don't panic if the ads don't show immediately after you launch the game, give it a few seconds and they'll show up.

Hey,

I couldn't get the admob extension to work either. Try using the built-in blocks. They worked for me. Here's the link to the stencylpedia page: http://www.stencyl.com/help/view/android-ads/

AdMob / Re: Admob Extension Keeps Crashing?
« on: January 13, 2015, 10:03:54 am »
Hey Matt,

I had the same problem with the AdMob Extension. The game builds then loads for like half a second, just enough to get a glimpse of the first screen, and then crashes. I couldn't get it to work, whatever I did.

In the end I stopped using the extension and just filled in all the necessary details for ads, in Settings->Mobile ( publisher key, certificate). I'm now using the built-in ad blocks for showing and hiding ads. That works just fine: game works and ads work.

Here's the link for the tutorial on Stencylpedia: http://www.stencyl.com/help/view/android-ads/

The ads might not show up immediately, but give it a few seconds, maybe a minute and they'll show up if all your details are correct. When you're testing the game, just be careful not to click the ads, so that you don't generate false clicks.

Good luck,
Andreea

AdMob / Need Help with Ads
« on: December 30, 2014, 04:27:06 am »
Hello,

I've tried using the AdMob extension for Android, but I can't get it to work. I've been searching this forum for hours, for a solution.

With the AdMob extension enabled, I get the message "Unfortunately, Game Name has stopped" on my tablet. I'm using Stencyl 3.2, and I've downloaded the latest AdMob extension.

How do you guys make it work?
Are there any other ways to have ads on my game? Are there other programs that I could use for a game made in Stencyl?

Thank you,
Andreea

Ask a Question / How to test if AdMob is working
« on: December 10, 2014, 02:33:02 pm »
Hello,

I'm making a game that I'd like to publish on Google Play soon, but I have no idea if ads from AdMob are working or not. Is there a way to test this, or is it just  after the game is online?

Thank you,
Andreea
