Here's a in-game screenshot of the game I'm working on. Any name suggestions? It's a pretty straightforward shooter.
I believe that it would be Thunderbird, Simon, and Flash 10 Mac. Maybe.
I ran a test...
I quit all open applications
...except telnet...
ran purge command...
I forget the order here, quit telnet / launch Safari
Safari only running program (No sites launched, as it started with blank page.)
Launched http://photics.com/games/arcading
So, I just sat and watched the memory usage... pretty much nothing unusual.
After a while, I decided to launch some applications... to see if the memory problem would return. Simon didn't upset things. It just checks that my websites are online.
I started wondering if this was a Flash issue, so I launched my Piwik page. It's web-based web traffic monitoring software... but the map uses Flash. It seems that when Flash is running somewhere else, the memory usage jumps. I don't know if it's counting both Flash files together or if Arcading suddenly needs more memory because another Flash application is running.
This really shouldn't be too much of a surprise to me. Flash can be cpu/memory intensive.
What applications were you running?
I don't remember... probably the following...
• Thunderbird
• Safari
• AIM
• FileZilla
• Terminal
• Activity Monitor
• Simon
• Flash 10 Mac
• Stencyl 2.0
They were mostly idle apps.
If the app can hit 90+ MB of memory with recycling, I'm not sure what's the point of recycling actors.
It could be related to having something else open on the computer while the game is running.
That seems possible, as it felt like my computer slowed down when the memory started to surge. Although, I'm not sure which application that would be. Nothing too unusual was running. I'm surprised that memory usage would triple... even if another application was running.
Some guys for a game
