Ask a Question / Game File Size On Mac
« on: July 02, 2012, 10:14:41 am »
Hi Guys,

I have a exported .swf game that is 1.8 meg. When I export this project to .app (for Mac), it is 68 Meg.

Is this normal that the offline game for Mac has a 40x larger file size than the flash .swf version?

Cheers,
Tristan

Hi Guys,

This issue has never come up before and I can't for the life of me figure it out.

As seen in the images below, mouse over works, pressed on or released doesn't work.

Any thoughts?

I'm using version 1.4.1

Cheers,
Raapeti

SOLVED - Behavior was corrupted, deleted and rebuilt, now works correctly.

Seriously... Download the stencyl software, get comfortable with the interface, do a few tutorials, find a skillbase by making a few simple games. You will then be able to judge your possibilities.

Hi Applaud,

Just bought it for my iPad.

Really great! music is catchy, concept is cool, art is cute.
I think you really spent quite some time polishing it and it shows.

Just out of interest, what was your production time frame and overall experience using Stencyl?
Were there any major hurdles you had to tackle to get it up and running to a professional level?

Cheers!

Game Ideas / Re: Some of my thoughts on the games we make

I use Stencyl to create interactive multimedia activities and presentations for my website. There are a lot of possibilities when you think out of the box.

Have taken PX9PHWPPP77R.

Game works well on iPad 2 with x2, no problems at all.

The mechanics are there, would be great to have some animation in the penguin to give him/her some cute personality, and some movement in the poor soon-to-be-eaten fish :)

Ask a Question / Re: Help with exported .swf file size
« on: January 25, 2012, 09:38:52 am »
Solved :-)

By exporting the images to PNG8 in my graphic program before importing them into Stencyl, I have reduced the filesize from 4MB to 1.6MB.

I removed the backgrounds and added them as actors at the bottom layer.
I didn't manage to knock it down. Looks like the Actor images are also being exported to the same size.

@coleislazy - That explains it. For the same image a PNG8 is 225k and a PNG24 is 660k.

Ask a Question / Help with exported .swf file size

Hi Guys,

I created a game that had one scene, the .swf was approx 1.3 megs. I added 3 more scenes to the game, with backgrounds and images of about 500k total. Now the game is almost 4 meg. It doesn't add up.

I removed one of the 80k jpg background images and dropped 600k filesize.

This poses two questions :

1. Why is an 80k jpg background inflated to 600k once exported by Stencyl?
2. Is there a tip to minimizing the file sizes?

Cheers,
Tristan

Ask a Question / How can I backup my game project?
« on: January 06, 2012, 11:36:38 pm »
Hi Guys,

This morning my machine didn't boot, after some effort I managed to get it up and running.
My first thought was, MY GAME! is it ok?

I am heavily into backing up all my important things, but I can't find a way to backup the project. I saw someone mention a plugin on the forum and another to backup to Stencylforge.

What I need to do is be able to save the project so that it can be opened on another computer if needed.

Tristan

Ask a Question / Re: Can we have multiple fonts in one scene?
« on: January 05, 2012, 07:23:22 am »
I have tried the following (seen in the pic)

It is giving some strange behavior, have I got the right idea?

I want the first set of drawn text to be one font and the other set to be another font.

Hi Guys,

I would like to have a scene with a font for the scoring and one for the scene main text.
Currently it either shows one or the other. I read in another post we are able to turn font colour on and off in order to allow for other colours, but are we able to do the same for the fonts themselves?

Cheers,
Tristan

Hi Abigayl,

This is exactly what I was looking for! I'll try it out shortly.

What I ended up doing, is breaking up each letter into an attribute which is what I did not want to have to do, see attached.

Thanks for the tip :-)

Cheers,
Tristan
