Old Bugs (1.x/2.x) / Re: Asks me to accept EULA and log in every time...
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:06:28 am »
Yup, on Windows.

I went and found Stencylworks.prefs, and deleted it after uninstalling Stencyl again. Also deleted the Stencylworks folder in my User folder.

Reinstalled Stencyl, now everything seems to be working fine!

Looks like Stencylworks.prefs got corrupted or something. Thank you for the help!

Not entirely sure what happened, but now each time I launch Stencyl it asks me to accept the EULA and log in.

On the About, it's version is listed as "null (bnull)".

It won't save my editors for art and audio either, resetting them each time I launch.

I've uninstalled Stencyl, rebooted, and re-installed, then rebooted, but have the same problem.

EDIT: I noticed in the logs that it was looking for a "prefs" folder, which when I checked, wasn't there. I made the folder, and now Stencyl launches fine. But there are still other problems, like the version "null" thing, and trying to update tells me I'm not connected to the internet.

That game was really good! Can't believe I missed it on the front page on Newgrounds, haha.
One feature I think would've been nice is to switch between chicken mode and the normal mode. Like as in, I turn on chicken mode then after the hard part, I turn it off. Still, It's a great experience.

Thank you!

I thought about it making Easy Mode a toggle, but then the difficulty wouldn't have had any threat to it, people could just skip parts they found hard, thus never experiencing any challenge at all.

Oh! Derp, I should have done that from the start, sorry.

Here you go.

Thank you. ^..^;

As for the publish-to-Stencyl.com error I receive, I've attached the error below. It would upload the 10MB pretty much instantly, and make an entry (http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/10918) but as you can see, there's nothing there.

Stencylworks is being run in adminstrator mode.

I've made the game a Work In Progress via the site, so it won't bother anyone.

Thank you so much. ^..^

I really am surprised at the positive reception, in spite of it being a rather tricky game.

Even you died 6 times on that set of jumps  :P; I'll give easy mode a try later.

Yup! My best game-complete run was 8 deaths, but that was an exception to the rule. In the video I had a total of 21 deaths I think, which isn't too bad.

But for my next game, I aim to avoid this kind of silly mechanic, it's just too unreliable.

I didn't have any hand in the front paging for this, but congrats! Tom Fulp's been pretty keen on supporting good Stencyl games, and this is no exception to that.

What sort of error were you seeing when trying to publish to our site?

I cannot thank you enough for Stencyl. Without it, I would never have been able to make this, or any future games I'm planning. Not being a programmer has been a giant hurdle, but with Stencyl I can kind of muddle along, or at least examine pre-made behaviors until I figure it out. I hope to purchase Stencyl Pro one day, since I think it's the best game-creation tool out there.

As for the error...

When going to Publish to Stencyl, it would upload almost instantly (considering it's a 10MB file, I doubted the accuracy of the upload bar), and then when it was finished the website would show the game entry, but there was no actual game uploaded.

This is a pretty good game, especially considering it's your first.  As you said, some parts are a bit tricky though especially this one...I gave up.

A trick I didn't teach properly in the earlier levels, is that of the "ski jump". If you jump-in on a slope, you get a boost when jumping out, which propels you even further. You can press K to enable Easy Mode if you just want to progress.

I have a video of a playthrough which shows some of the trickier jumps (which I fail a few times because I'm so nervous, this was recorded right after launch): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xem3-PzrdII

I just finished my first game yesterday, called "Muu: Just Another Day".

It's currently on the front page of Newgrounds, which was a surprise to me.

You can find it here: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/589079

Press Z to jump, press K to turn on Easy Mode (but it can't be turned off again).

I'd never made a game before, and I'm not a programmer. I wouldn't have been able to make the game were it not for StencylWorks (and the excellent Cutscene behaviours by Greg).

I had a lot of fun making it, especially since I limited myself to a few hours a day, for two weeks (I have a rather demanding job).

It's a low-fi platformer with some tricky jumps (a lot of people don't figure out the "ski" mechanic of jumping in on an angle, to launch you further), and a lot of issues, but it was mostly an experiment and learning experience. I used one color to stop myself from spending too much time on the graphics.

I tried to upload it to Stencyl and publish it there, but it kept giving me an error.
