Jon - I attached the log view above (with my first post).

Justin - Not sure what you are saying -  so I can keep working in Stencyl and ignore the warning, and in the new build, it will be taken care of?

I just opened Stencyl and I get this message (attached). I am running Yosemite v 10.10.5 (the latest one I believe). I do not think it is effecting Stencyl, but is anyone else getting this message and what can I do about it?

Ask a Question / Game development...general questions

Hi all,
New to Stencyl and I have some questions about game development. So you have an idea and want to develop it in Stencyl, but you are not sure of the artwork yet. You would however like to start making the game. Is it feasible to start with simple shapes and then substitute them later for actual graphics? If so, is there a simple way to substitute them later (or make them right inside Stencyl)?  I have seen it done in Fusion 2.5 but they have a sprite editor so it is easy to create those basic shapes (circles, squares, or even simple characters). I know there is Pencyl, but it seems to not be very "user-friendly" (i.e. no undo, etc...). I'd be interested to understand how seasoned pros handle this.

Also, when creating tile sheets, are there guidelines as far as dimensions, dpi, etc? If so, can someone point me in the direction to read more on it?

Thank you Innes for the reply. I see you have an extensive  course on Udemy. Is that more current and how does it compare to your book?

Thank you both.  I am too new to the software. I need to stop and go thru the tutorials before I try this stuff.  Thanks again for the advice!

Thank you for the reply. So that is how I would code the behavior with blocks, correct? How about with the "stock" behaviors. I am moving my actor with the 8 direction behavior. I added the "Die on Collision with Actor" behavior, but what behavior would I use to switch to my other sprite animation?  I have looked but non make sense to me.
Other info that might help...I have "animation 0" as the first sprite animation (alive). Then I added another sprite animation to same actor (dying animation).

Thanks again

I have just started playing around with Stencyl and I haven't looked through all the documentation so I apologize ahead of time. I am just trying to substitute one animated sprite of my character for another animated sprite (the dead version) upon hitting an object (an event). Is there a tutorial on this (switching sprites based on events) or any suggestions where to find out how to do this. I'll be looking more comprehensively into the docs and tutorials but I just need to get this up and running quickly.

Thanks for understanding and any recommendations on learning paths for Stencyl is very welcome!

Hi all,
I'm new here and trying out Stencil. IS this book applicable to Stencyl 3.3.2 or do I need another source(s) to learn about the latest features as well?
