Ask a Question / Re: How to get enemy to follow you with a delay?
« on: July 04, 2018, 01:49:38 am »
Sorry but I have no idea what you're talking about.

I don't want delay to be true at some point of time and false at other, but I want delay all the time. Hope you get what I'm trying to say.

Maybe I should create an attribute that records position of the actor as it was 0.5 sec earlier?

I thought that too. But that doesn't seem to work.

If we make enemy to approach player after, say 0.5 secs, then the enemy will approach player at that instant of time and not that of 0.5 secs earlier (because position of player is recorded/changed everytime game updates).

Anymore ideas?

I don't want the enemy to change direction the moment my player moves. But after a fraction of a sec delay.

Changed the resolution from FullHD to 1366x768, resized to 100% and restarted.

It works.

Anybody came up with a fix?

I've switched to Windows 10 just over a month ago. I have to "Change the size of text, apps and other items" to 175%.

And what about changing screen resolution in-game? Is it possible with Stencyl?

So you guys know any good screen resolution for pixelated fullscreen games? Because 760x480 doesn't seem to be 16:9.

EDIT: Rimrook sorry I didn't read your reply. Thanks :)

So I should make everything in my game for '576w 320h' and then select the 'Scale To Fit (Letterbox)'. That would work fine, right?

And what it you have pixelated art? Would it look blurry?

I'm making my first PC game for Steam. So I don't have much idea about resolution and scaling.

Oh! I should consider publishing for Windows too.

So I guess I must have a Windows PC to make that build, or I can publish it with an Ubuntu PC as well?

1-2% of the PC version? That's quite low. But I'm actually thinking about making something unique for Linux.

Do you have any experience in publishing Linux games to Steam?

And yes, I'm using Ubuntu.

EDIT: Making something unique means that I want to make a game that is better than most of the Linux games on Steam. So I believe I would have less competition If I were to put the same game for Windows. But I think the sales would still be lower than Windows.

I was working on the sequel of my game Digibots, and I've been getting sound problems lately working on flash. So I thought "why not make a Linux version of my game and publish it on Steam?" I don't have any experience for the Linux platform - tbh I don't even own the Indie version of Stencyl. And I don't know how the Linux gaming market is like right now.

For me, It's would be a risk investing $100 on Stencyl Indie and $100 for getting my game up on Steam.

So anybody have any experience or knowledge about getting Linux games on Steam ???

Ask a Question / Re: Converting .wav to .mp3 without a delay
« on: March 16, 2018, 11:25:04 am »
Hey BMJ sorry to bother you! But I've found something about this issue.

Suppose if clicking the mouse plays the sound, then the sound will play right away when you click for the first time. But from the second time onwards, it will have that 0.4 sec delay. This is happening like 90% of the time on flash (browser). I check on flash (player), and the situation is kinda same.

I played the file you attached with that wooden crate sound effect and guess what, its having a delay too!

Any ideas?

Hey yogyog, can you please try my game on your fast computer if possible? Because my computer is pretty old and I want to know how my game sounds play on newer, faster ones.

Can you please tell me if the shooting sound plays 1) Right away as you click the mouse or 2) a fraction of second after you click the mouse (at the same time the bullets come out)?

Let me explain what happened.

Originally in my game, the bullets would fire instantly as you click the left mouse button. But about 2 months prior to the release, I found that the sound was playing 0.4 secs after the bullets shot.

Then I got a anew idea to fix this - the sound would "play" as soon as you click, and a preloader kind of thing would appear on the crosshair. When that preloader is fully charged (at 0.4 secs), the bullets would come out AND because the sound was made to play 0.4 secs earlier (at the mouse click), it would appear to be played at the same time bullets are shot because of the delay.

Now the question for you is, does the sound play at the same time mouse is clicked or 0.4 secs after the mouse click when the bullets actually come out?

It's getting weird now! When I play my game on flash (browser), the first click plays the sound right away - with no delay, at least 90% of the time. But from the second click onwards, it plays after about 0.3-0.4 secs.

But then I converted that same mp3 that was having that delay to the ogg format (on website that you mentioned above), and I played on the linux platform using that ogg, and the delay was gone!

So I guess there's a problem with the flash player? Because when I convert that same mp3 to ogg to play on linux it works good. Or something else?

Can you play Digibots ( http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/38291 ) and give me feedback on the sounds?
