Archives / Use iPhone or iPad camera for background
« on: August 21, 2012, 11:59:31 am »
I recently found a free iphone game which was published by my favorite TV show "Falling Skies".
It's called "Falling Skies 2nd Mass". It is a first person shooter that uses the live iPhone camera feed as the background and has enemies attack from 360 degrees so the player has to spin around when he hears footsteps. Could this be do-able in a future version of Stencyl?

I recommend iPhone users download "2nd Mass" and try it.

News / Re: Stencyl Game Jam at Newgrounds - $1,000 in prizes
« on: July 21, 2012, 08:14:03 pm »
Is anyone submitting a game that they intend to release on the iStore?
I might enter a three level alpha version of my game in progress.
Is it worth it or should I just keep it under wraps until the final release is ready?
Any worry about piracy at this stage of the game?

Sorry for all the questions. I am hoping that someone with experience will enlighten me.
Thanks

Resolved Questions / Re: Health Manager

I too am having your problem with Health Manager and the "Old Health" appears not to be working in v2.0. See my previous post at http://community.stencyl.com/index.php/topic,9923.0.html

Both Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes are okay with it...

Ask a Question / Sample Games Don't Work In v2.0
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:37:33 pm »
In Stencylworks v1 the Run and Gun Example plays correctly but in v2.0 the Med Kit does not restore the hero's health. I am also having problems with the included Health Manager behavior working fully as well. I have tested in the Flash environment on both Windows XP and 7, and Mac OS Lion. All with the same results. I'm a noob and certainly could be misconfiguring the Health Manager but all I did was open Run and Gun and immediately test it.
The Shoot em Up spaceship example also does not score when tested from v2.0 but was fine in v1.
Does anyone know what has changed in v2.0 that would stop the scoring and health assignment from working?

Ask a Question / Health Manager Behavior Problem
« on: April 20, 2012, 12:08:16 pm »
Building upon the Run and Gun Example, I attached Health Manager to the "Jumper" actor. I deactivated the existing health behavior which floats a health bar above his head and told Health Manager to place the bar in a static position on the screen. It worked except the bar does not recognize damage to the actor and become shorter. I have changed the colors for all of the percentages but it remains the same size right up until poor Jumper is destroyed. I tried changing the broadcast message to those that worked with the existing health behavior. I.E. "Healed" to "tookDamage" but no go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS - Stencyl 2.0 is really neat...

Finally got a chance to pay some attention to this. CaptainComics solution worked perfectly.
Thanks again

Game Art / Re: What programs do yall use to make yalls art?
« on: April 11, 2012, 04:24:24 pm »
I like Inkscape. Not only is the price right, but since it is a vector program, you can change the size of the art without any loss of quality. It is possible to export a tiny sprite for your game and re-export the same art for a poster or some other marketing material with no problem. Inkscape also has the ability to outline a scanned image as well.

Thanks CaptainComic for your speedy reply.
I can see from your answer that I am going to have to spend some time learning about attributes to get this sucker to work. Stencylforge came up with some interesting behaviors to try when I changed my search string from "switch scene" to just "scene".

Hi,
I'm really excited about the potential that Stencyl provides. Unfortunately, I have not found an explanation on how to have a shooter type game automatically switch to a different scene once all enemies have been destroyed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
