Ask a Question / Re: Newgrounds.swf Corrupted
« on: May 05, 2018, 07:21:36 am »
Ah, of course, sorry, this is what I get when I try publishing a Sample Game in HTML:

2018-05-05 16:19:18,345 ERROR [pool-1-thread-1] Failed: Building for HTML5. (Return code: 1)

I suppose it is something with my Mac/High Sierra as my game works fine on a Windows.

Great to hear that Flash will work in the new version!

Thank you for your fast reaction! I downloaded the Sample Game Dungeons and went Publish > Arcade, this is what I got:

I am having the exact same problem, I work with a Mac with High Sierra 10.13.4. Although I have the newest version of Flash installed. I cannot export it on Arcade and only test it with HTML. The real problem now is, that I can't export it in HTML either!

It shows this:
ERROR [pool-1-thread-1] Failed: Building for HTML5. (Return code: 1)

I would need this fixed by the end of the month but when I see the date of this thread I am not very optimistic. I really hope somebody is working on this or found a workaround for Mac and apparently Ubuntu users.

Ask a Question / How to publish a game to a website?
« on: April 13, 2018, 05:47:31 am »

I am wondering how I can publish my game as an HTML file. When I go to Publish > Web > HTML 5 it gives me an error.
In the log is says this several times with different customs:

2018-04-13 14:42:12,553 ERROR [pool-2-thread-4] stencyl.sw.editors.snippet.designer.codebuilder.xml.XMLParser: Can't load definition: custom-332
2018-04-13 14:42:12,559 ERROR [pool-2-thread-1] stencyl.sw.editors.snippet.designer.block.Group: Couldn't create block from xml tag: custom-471

I browsed through Stencylpedia as well as this forum and did not find anything expect for more questions. Has anyone actually ever successfully published a game in HTML?

Ouff, I finally made it! The box only shows when the Player is near it (Distance = 25).

Thank you so much for your patient inputs.

Now that is why I created an Actor which I hid behind a tile. Because the tile is supposed to look the same but the info is to change. This way the Player knows that when he reaches a certain tile, he gets information there. So back to square one.

I tried downloading EasyMath to work with distance, but when moving the folder 'EasyMath' into 'engine-extension', it won't show under Extensions > Toolset Extension Manager.
So I tried with Pythagoras and I feel like I am pretty close.

Have you found a solution?  :) Mine plays without problems in the Stencyl Player but nothing in HTML 5.

Edit: I found out that sound is not working in Safari but without problems in Google Chrome.

Oh, of course! It actually is a tile, I just thought an Actor would work better... this would therefore be a much more elegant way.

So now I tried it with a tile, I inserted plain text in the Data field, and I suppose this is not gonna do the trick. Unfortunately on Stencylpedia I can only find the note that this is possible but not what to insert in 'Data'.
Still the same error message. ???

I am planning to do a jump and run with a maximum of 10 levels, nothing fancy. The game is rather a way to get information and a story in a fun way. I draw all the levels myself and have most of them sketched out, now I need some experienced Stencyler who can make it function as I want it to.

Inbox me what rate per hour you have in mind, I expect the workload somewhere between 5 and 10 hours.

I study Visual Storytelling and this is my graduation project. It will end on a website in June, so I will publish it as HTML.
(Don't worry, it's not like 'ghost writing' - when a student decides to do a book, first thing is that he has to find a graphic designer.  :) )
I have tried many hours so far to build a little world and get accustomed to this program, now to make it work smoothly (also with sound and preferably video) I am looking for a skilled Stencyler.
Looking forward to your message!

That gives me an error (Unkown identifier : point)

And when I do it like this, the text shows up when the Player is on the Actor but doesn't go away when the Player is not colliding with the Actor anymore.

Do I have to change something in the colliding Actor? Or what does your 'data for collided = Text' mean?

Woah, thanks a lot! If only I knew sooner.

Label Extension isn't there, I also can't find it anywhere in the stencyl folders. I have read through the forum and couldn't find a link to download it as it should come with the stencyl installation. In Settings > Extensions there are only the ones I manually put in the engine-extension folder. I did not want to reinstall Stencyl but I can imagine that might fix it.
But oh well, I guess your showed method works perfectly fine. I am just starting to feel bad always asking you for help! Because now, working with boolean, I think that definitely exceeds my skills...
Would it look something like this? ??? Text should only show when the Player collides with a certain tile and vanish when the Player moves along, so I thought of the 'While' conditional  ???

Well, yes, and I have followed through another time now, doing it exactly how you did it and I'm at the end of my latin.  When a text is supposed to be shown, the game just kind of freezes when testing in HTML. I'm up for paying someone to do some simple coding, just hit me up here whoever is interested!

Also, it should incorporate this, as the text on the white rectangle should only show when the actor hits a certain tile. I am grateful for any help!

Thanks for the input! You are probably right. Though I have tried to do it with text and it didn't work for some reason. I attached two screenshots. What am I overseeing?

Also, where do I find the Labels Extension...?
