Thanks a lot but I must be really missing something here. I get again error about the size of the png picture. The size is ok (320x480) - I did not have any problem with that until yesterday after I created a new scene. I attach the log here and the scene behaviour that I tried to do in the next post.

I think max image refers to not just 1 image but also could be a large animation, do you use backgrounds? if so maybe use image instances instead... ive noticed backgrounds imported to stencyl are quite large

Thank you for the advice.  If I follow the instructions at http://www.stencyl.com/help/view/image-api, I see that I should use "set instance to set of (img)". Please where is the command "set instance to" (the one in dark blue color)? I cannot find it in the palette. Thank you!

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately the issue is still there even after I restart Stencyl :(

Well... thank you for the advice but now I have a new problem.  I just tried to open "Preferences" and I got an error message (with the line "this should not have happened...").  Please see the log.  Please could anyone tell me what is wrong?  I feel as if the whole software is falling apart, nothing is working!

Ask a Question / Please help - one of the images too large

Hello All,

Please could you help me? I got the error message that the game could not be built because one of the images is too large to be included.  No image is exceptionally large, however.  The message says 'max_string_size reached'. I attach the logs.

Thank you very much for the help.

Ask a Question / About screen size and resize
« on: March 14, 2019, 03:12:33 am »
Hello to this great community!

Please apologise that I ask something I should be able to sort out on my own but I am still trying to collect bits of information that are here and there...

So, I would like to make a game that would run on mobile phones/tablets bearing in mind today's resolutions (i.e. that would be higher than 320x480). Please could you anyone just suggest me:

1. Which values for Setting - Display should I use? I read Stencyl 4.0 suggests "Making a mobile game? Use 320x480" but it does not make sense to me to have such low resolution with nowadays' screens. Am I correct?

2. When I start creating the backgrounds (for a game where background is static, there is no camera), am I correct that the background image should be of the same size of the values of Setting - Display as in question 1?

3. When I start creating actors, I was thinking to make them as images of the "appropriate" size given the size of the background image (I hope this is clear - I mean, I would make actors images the size I would like them to see on the background without bothering of scaling them up or down). Am I correct that then I should scale images at 1x when importing images into the frames of actors?

Thank you so much for the clarifications. As I wrote, all this must be clear when I assimilate all that is written here and there on the website and guides but I need some help to connect the dots.

Ask a Question / max_string_size reached error
« on: March 13, 2019, 07:30:36 pm »
Hello

I was developing a game which worked fine. Then I started adding backgrounds, all of the same size, and creating new scenes.  I go the max_string_size error but I do not know why as images are not large (68kb and 320x480). I deleted the new scenes, and now also the original first scene, which used to work fine, gives the error message. Please any advice?
