News / Re: Stencyl 3.0 - Design Once. Play Anywhere.

Has anyone done performance tests on Android with 3.0? How does it perform? Also, what major or annoying bugs are left? I am willing to pay early for 3.0 beta access but am unsure of whether or not it is good enough to create apps in yet.

Yesterday, on this thread, it was suggested that there is a secret being kept, and that it can't be a positive thing. That comment is totally unfounded and it is a silly rumour to start. If there was a secret being hidden from the public, then it would be discovered very quickly indeed.

I'm sorry if I came off as saying there definitely is a secret. I didn't mean to come off that way. What I meant was the lack of updates makes us feel that way. The update log that rob1221 posted is something that should be made public. That was the point I was trying to make. Why keep it hidden in a forum non-subscribers cannot see? Does it really threaten Stencyl's reputation? What other reason could there be for not making it public?

All I am asking is for the devs to make information like that public. It eased my conscious to see that list and I'm sure others who have not seen that till now feel better as well. I had no idea that much progress was made each day. How else would I know? It really shouldn't be up to subscribers to copy and paste information and the fact that devs didn't edit that post to remove the information tells me they don't care if the public sees it... So I am just recommending they make it public from now on. It really is good for their public trust.

EDIT:

One other thing. Can an official Stencyl representative give us information on their plans for subscriber discounts? I would like access to the beta and know those who pay early get a good discount but I have no idea how much of a discount I will get. If it will be cheaper for me to wait then I will want to wait. I only care about Android so that's the option I want information on.

I really want to buy 3.0 and have been watching the site for months. My problem is that I have minimal trust in Stencyl at this point. Not really in the program, but the team. I understand that they have run into unexpected things but the amount of information available is unacceptable. I have seen no new information presented from the dev team. Why can they not take 1 hour a week to tell us what they are currently doing? They could simply post about issues they have fixed, new stuff they are working on, and an estimated time frame of completion.

What they don't understand is that the little-to-no information looks very bad on them as a company. What if I have issues or general questions after 3.0 is released? Am I going to have to wait extremely large periods of time to get any information? I have seen them respond to some questions after 2.0 was released but, again, the extreme lack of information about 3.0 scares me. I feel like they are too afraid to talk about it.

I really want to trust in 3.0 and the dev team behind it... but unless they start being more open about what is going on I have little trust left. I was seriously about to purchase GameSalad today and the only thing that stopped me was I found out the program has no ad support for Android (the only platform I care about at the moment). If ads are added to their program, even if 3.0 is released, I will probably be giving them my money. Why? Because any time a user over on their forums asks a question, paying customer or not, there is a team member that answers their question, even if it is about unfinished features.

I know I am not the only one who feels this way. In this very thread I see a lot of people frustrated over the little-to-no responses from Stencyl devs. If I had to pick one thing that worries me the most it is that despite lots of people expressing the same feelings as me they STILL don't say anything... and that's scary. Something is being hidden from us and it can't be a positive thing. There is absolutely no reason why Stencyl would be so tight on keeping a good thing a secret.

Version: 2.0.1 build 501

Problem: I am learning stencyl but ran into a very annoying problem. Everything in stencyl seems to save (have only been using it for about 2 hours so I may run into other stuff not saving) but scenes do not. Here is an example test I did.

Test 1 - Place one extra tile, click save game, close scene tab, reopen scene, scene is back to the old version without the additional tile I placed.

Test 2 - Save process as above but instead of clicking the save game button I closed stencyl by clicking the "X" to close the window. This prompts me to save the game. If I hit save game here OR when I select "close game" from the file sub menu the game actually saves. When I reopen the game the scene is in fact the new saved version with the new tile.

Note: Even when doing Ctrl-R to refresh the scene during test 1 the problem persists.
