Ask a Question / Setting Up 4.1.0 issues

Sorry for the long post, but I'm very much in need of help.
Having a lot of trouble getting new Release 4.1.0 set-up.

Compiling for Windows - says it needs Visual Studio Code so ut tries to instal that but
comes to s screaching halt being unable to delete a temporary file, which I can't delete either.
So I downloaded itr myself and it installed all OK.
However, 4.1.0 can't find it and so tries to instal it itself but no good as explpained above.
So is there somewhere in the engine to specify it's location?

Compipling for Android - I let it download all defaults for the Android SDK and Built Tools.
But it then says I need API 33 for the Playstore - but this is the free version and anyway I only have API 31 Android 12. I'm going round in circles and can't get out of this loop.

Please advise as I must be doing something silly.

Thanks for your reply. I did think of that and had tried it, but it made no difference. Even when I specify a long time, the green square appears instantly on the top left screen corner.

HI, I'm starting to learn the Image API. Can someone please explain why the green square goes to the top left corner of the screen when I use the 'slide' block (please see attached scree shots).  If this is the wrong block, how then to move an instance image, say for example, across the screen in a smooth motion? Really appreciate any help.

Trying to learn the Image API.
I followed Luyren's tutorial and was able to create the coloured squares as he did.

But having lots of trouble trying to put an Actor image on the screen
After trying many things, I could only accomplish this if I first place the Actor in the scene prior to generating the Actor with Image API blocks.

In the attached screens, the Actor in the top right corner is the one I placed there manually.
The other Actor on the s screen is the one generated with API Image blocks (as per screen shot).
But it just won't appear without placing that Actor somewhere on the screen first.

Really appreciate if you can point out what I'm doing wrong.

Are there any tutorials on how these graphics can be done in Stencyl ?
I imagine some of Luyren's packs would be needed?

Justin, you hit the nail on the head - I was totally blind to that !

This can easily happen when you are working very close to something and intensely so,
that you can't see the forest for the trees.

I really love Stencyl not only because both its concept and its looks are beautiful,
it is also because it makes you think hard - and at my age (73) that's what I need to keep my retired mind from rusting away.

Please see attached code.
This all works correctly, whereby I display the correct number of Aliens in the Group as well as number of Grabbers,
but these figures do not alter after I have started killing off Aliens.

So how to call the custom blocks only for Alive Aliens?

I tried calling on the condition they are Alive, and on condition they are on the screen, but doesn't work

I uninstalled Stencyl, downloaded and installed it again, and now the same game in a Windows compile works perfectly.

I had done this previously but it made no difference.

However, this time there is that little icon 'Game Controller' which I'm almost certain wasn't there before.

This is already NOT enabled.

I just tried an HTML compile, and it half works.
i.e. the Aliens don't fade in and out BUT Luyren's particles spawn every few seconds just as they are programmed to do
(but that doesn't happen with a Windows compile).

This is very strange, and although I see it, I still find it difficult to believe!

I tried Luyren's suggestion to clean out the cache, but to no avail.

After the clean, I Immediately did a Windows compile which didn't change anything.
I then re-compiled with the Flash player and it works perfectly,
with the Aliens fading in and out, and Luyren's particles going off every few seconds as I  programmed it to do,
but the Windows (and Android) compiles run the game but without these 2 features at all.

Given no one else has this issue, it must be something local on my Windows 10 laptop.

I don't think I have a virus because I have Norton's running in the background and it has never let me down for last 10 years.

Thanks for your reply, but no, there are no error messages - compile goes straight thru to the end and builds the .exe
