Thanks to everyone who got in touch! We've found someone to build the templates for our store we are no longer looking for someone.

We are sticking with just one Stencyl developer just now, I'll post again in the future if we make IndieGameDesigner.com and open store for everyone to sell on.

Grunge Up Your Vectors - Photoshop

Here is a link to the tutorial page.

This tutorial is done in Photoshop but you can easily follow along using Gimp. The general idea is to use texture photos to add...well...texture to your vectors!

You can download some free texture/backgrounds here.

Blending Modes Reference - Photoshop

Here is a link to the tutorial page.

This is more of a guide/reference than a tutorial. It shows the various effects of the different blending modes in graphics programs. If you've ever come across the words 'Overlay' & 'Multiply' before and scratched your head - now you have a visual guide to show you what they do!

Proportionally the stones in the tile look an OK size. The size of the tile as a whole will depend on the target resolution of your game I guess....

Hard or easy here are a few places that will help you develop your skills;

- Free Vector Program: Gimp http://www.gimp.org
- Free Colour Tools(For folk like S34Qu4K3): https://kuler.adobe.com
- Easy Vector Background Tutorial: http://www.indiegamedesigner.com/2012/09/13/sunburst-background/
- Vector To Pixel Art Tutorial: http://2dwillneverdie.com/tutorial/vector-to-pixel-building-your-sprites-in-adobe-illustrator/

Hop that helps.

Keep following tutorials, try copying reference pictures and do it every day - that's the only way to get better.

As for the style/method just focus on a style that inspires you and physically create by whatever method feels natural. I like vector art but can't do pixel art to save my life. My method is somewhere in between the other posters here; I sketch with a cheep Bamboo Wacom tablet, Live Trace it in Illustrator and then tweak the living daylights out of it to get the look I want.

Stick with it and you'll get there, art is not that hard.

Sounds like a cool idea Costaah. Make sure you don't underestimate the planning stage before you dive into the coding/graphics, you have a lot of cool ideas/features that will take a good bit of working out.

Good luck, will keep checking this post to see your progress.

Paid Work / Want To Sell Your Game Templates???
« on: May 13, 2013, 07:15:36 am »
Marie from IndieGameDesigner.com here.

Our game asset store is growing in popularity every day but we want to widen our reach and make Stencyl a bigger part of it and need an expert to join our team.

We are looking to team up with the most talented Stencyl coder our there to sell Setncyl game templates on our game assets store as soon as possible.

You get to keep 100% of the sales, that's right, no commission from us. But you have to be good, productive, offer customer support in the IGD forums and keep your templates on IGD.com.

If you are interested and have the skills, get in touch: mail@indiegamedesigner.com

A link to previous games or templates is a must.
