I agree with folks proposing to break work into chunks and having 1 individual put it all together. I'm working on a small game with myself and two others using the website Teamwork (www.teamworkpm.net).

This website has been such a great resource in tracking who does what, when it needs to be done, and most importantly allows for 1 location all people can upload their resources. I highly suggest you check it out (oh and it's free!)

Chit-Chat / Re: What tutorials would you like to see?

I'd love to see, as Silux has said, a tutorial on how to change a game's speed in addition to the gold standard when you're designing actors that collide with one another.

By the way, just looked at your blog for the first time and it looks like a great resource. Keep it up!

I must say for me, this thread is the most valuable in not only the creation of awesome games but projects in general. I'd just like to offer this little jewel I found a week ago.

Problems I often encounter:
  • working with team members from far distances
  • actively keeping up with how's it going
  • collaborating with one another

The solution may be found at www.teamworkpm.net. It's a project management website that offers a free trial. In developing your game this will be most helpful to prevent (in my opinion) the ultimate killer of games in development: SCOPE/FEATURE CREEP.

Enjoy.

Archives / Stencyl + Windows Phone?
« on: July 15, 2012, 02:15:32 pm »
Although Windows Phone currently has VERY little market share in America in regards to mobile devices, with the inception of Windows 8 (mixed reviews from me personally) and a potential creation of an ecosystem of devices:
  • Windows Phones
  • Surface Tablet
  • XBox 360

I would like to see Stencyl games with an export to Windows Phone. Also the Windows Marketplace is far less "crowded" than our friends @ Apple. Thoughts?

*Disclaimer* I'm new to the Stencyl scene so if this is a feature that's already included please let me know and dismiss this post.

Archives / Re: The next big platform? OUYA?

I'm damn excited for the release of OUYA. Today it stands at almost 60,000 orders to be fulfilled by March 2013. That being said, however, a small part of me fears they won't be able to fulfill a such a ginormous order. Full production on injected molded parts, QA testing, shipping etc.

But hey. One can do a lot with 4.8 million dollars lol. Can't wait to see OUYA's success!

Premium OUYA support! :D I know that it'd be close to the same as Android, but I hear that it's best to optimize it for OUYA.

OUYA support.. whoa. Is this confirmed? With the Kickstarter at almost 60,000 sales for OUYA it would be a great day for Stencyl.

Chit-Chat / Re: Introduce Yourself!

Lawgo is the name! I'm currently a medical device engineer who stares at Excel sheets more than any man or woman should be allowed. When I'm not locked in my cage I'm working with my grade school buddy on his comic series Texas Toast Adventures.

With a small following on Facebook it would be our greatest joy to turn Tex into a walking talking game. This is why I'm here. This is one inspiring community I hope can take our dream into a real walking talking piece of toast.

This is why short dev cycles are your friend. Longest I've ever took to finish a game was 10 days.

...And I still have like 3 unfinished projects I know I'll never go back to again.

Wise words. Curious though, during the short dev cycles should those days just be focused on implementation and execution or do those days include character development and brainstorming of mechanics etc.?

Chit-Chat / Re: What Have You Been Playing Lately?
« on: June 24, 2012, 09:35:17 pm »
Going back to the JRPG's and debating whether to play:

* Saga Frontier on the PS1 (multiple story lines with combine attacks in battle) or
* Lunar Silver Star Story on the PS1 (turn based RPG with very memorable story line and characters).
