Ask a Question / Shadowing

I was wondering whether one could create a program where depending on the color and distance from the light-source , the sprite changes ?

In simpler words is it possible to have 'variable' color in just 1 sprite . This variable color could be used to change the sprite in different regions.
The point of all this is that the artist needs to create only one sprite with the shading effects.

If this possible pls help me out by posting screen-shots of the blocks.

Game Art / NEED HELP WITH SPRITE SIZE
« on: September 23, 2012, 05:15:45 am »
Previously around a week back I saw this gaming magazine snapshots of games with stunning pixel art...
I decided to work on my skills to recreate this quality of art ..... But each time I worked on it , what happened was the outline was way too thick sometimes , the features where not seen properly...Until....I realized the problem....The Size ....

I would really like to know the size of the canvas ( or whatever you call it ) you guys use to draw sprites.
Quicker replies would be appreciated.

News / Re: Stencyl, Flash, HTML5, Android and the future
« on: August 04, 2012, 11:28:24 am »
I would like to comment on the "the future" bit.

I have mentioned 'enyo' in the stencyl 3.0 page for those of you who have'nt seen it it's some thing like
Just to keep the " what language or system will stencyl run on?" argument ( or whatever its called)
updated.

Have any of you guys heard of ' enyo ' it's a cross platformed javascript application that transports to all major OS including :-

For PC
-Windows
-Linux
-Mac

For Mobile and Tablets
-Android
-iOS
-Blackberry
-WebOS

And for web browsers such as :
-Chrome
-Firefox
-Safari
-internet explorer

and many more OSs.

If enyo could be used in Stencyl............the possibilities.....(still calculating).....are almost infinite.

We could transport apps and games not only to our current options (flash browser,iOs,PC)
but to the various other great platforms.

Oh.....forgot a major point....It's free. 8)

I know that the chances of this happening in the 3.0 update are close to none so I decided to post here so that a future update may have this feature...

It's extremely simple : A couple of programming lines here and there and .... Alakazam !!! your game has now been shipped to all major OS 's !!!

I would like to see this feature coming somewhere in the future ( not so near I now fear) not only for me but for all those developers who want their Stencyl Games to be transorted to different OSs

Enyo's Official Website : http://enyojs.com/

Oh...And yes Jon ,  do give a reply to the status of 3.0 in the news page.

Game Art / Re: Love to hear what you think of the art style
« on: August 03, 2012, 11:30:48 pm »
Before I start of I want to say that that tileset.........looks incredibly AWESOME!!!
The art overall is a um......in my opinion..pixel and vector fusion that looks extremely well the way you use it. Many artist have difficulties in combining pixel and vector art styles. You seem to have finished it up in no time.

My name is Greymtr Smith , but people call me doctor smith , grey and doc.

I'm a 2d pixel artist ( to some degree I typed that without smiling  ), I know little 'bout the programming part ( I should have told " I don't know anything about programming....."),I like Sci-fi ( yeah...that's right I'm your ideal anti-Percy Jackson , anti-Harry-Potter , anti-fantasy guy.*)

I play quite a few ( Should have said "no")  pixel art games to learn more about this fascinating subsidiary of digital art.

Oh yes did I mention I have a great sense of humor especially in the humor in brackets contests ?

(what!! you did not notice that!!)

You also mentioned that the game will be "old schooled" doesn't that mean pixel art?
Old-School game design (in this instance, RPG gameplay) does not mean old-school art design.

I do understand that Hectate...All I was hinting here is that pixel art would add up to the amount of 'old schooledness" there by rendering it more " old school "

That's great news; I'm looking forward to the Android release.

Just a small point Jon; would it possible to refer to Q1, Q2, etc, rather than 'summer', 'winter', etc? The seasons differ depending on which part of the world one lives!

I suppose the risk is that 'quarters' sound more formal, but for me, 'summer' is near the end of the calendar year and I don't want to wait that long!

If it's any help, I have an Android Tablet (Asus EEE Transformer) and would be pleased to participate in a beta programme for Android.

My personal target is around the start of July. Let's see how close I get to this. ;)

um....start of July?

It's almost August......
