I'm working on this game again. Haven't updated this for a while because I was busy with school / work. But i'm picking this up.

I worked on some redesigning of this game and writing down new concepts for Catastrophe Rush including a story, also I made a new logo. Because I haven't been working on this game for a few months, I realized I missed some kind of story in this game and a little more action. So this break helped me a little tho.

What do u think about the new design and logo? Feedback is welcome!

Ask a Question / screen sizes iphone
« on: July 14, 2014, 02:12:04 pm »
Hello,

The games i've made are for flash and i want to make something for the iphone. But I got stuck with the screen size. When I start a new project on stencyl, it tells me that 480 x 320 is the right size for mobile games. But the iPhone 5 is 1136 x 640. So I understand that you have to design graphics bigger so it can scale but the iPhone 5 screen resolution is longer (height). That's what's confusing me with the suggested 480 x 320 resolution. Why can't I use the iphone 5 resolution? Do I need to use the 480 x 320 anyways? Also, what sizes do I use to design in photoshop/illustrator?

Sorry if this has been answered a million times, but I can't seem to understand this every time I google about it. :(

What im working on for the next update:

Plasma Bar for Instant Death Disasters:
Can you fill up the Plasma Bar till its full? With every disaster you pick or every time you click on a plasma, the bar fills up a little bit. When it's full, you can pick a Instant Death Disaster. These disasters kills humanity with one click! Crash the moon on earth? Let the planet get sucked into a black hole? Those kind of disasters. But it's not easy to fill up the Plasma Bar because every day, the bar will empty itself.

Achievements
I'm working on achievements you can unlock! There will be an achievement button so you can see which one you have unlocked and which one are still locked. This is also a better way to show you what kind of surprise there are. Right now, you have no idea there is an ice age disaster which kills a lot of people and makes the planet covered in snow. But if you see there is an achievements for it, you now there must be a way to unlock it! It's still up to you to find out how to make an ice age ;)

Stay tuned for more updates! I'm working on it and your feedback is always welcome.

Ask a Question / Re: Moving 'health' bar

Hmmm wait.. It's working when I put the blocks from the actor behavior straight into the actor events instead of a behavior. Why is that working?? Well anyways, I got it fixed but it doesn't make sense to me.

Ask a Question / Moving 'health' bar
« on: June 11, 2014, 01:29:01 pm »
Hello,

Let me explain what i'm trying to make first:
In my game, you have to press on some actors to fill the bar. So with every mouse click, the bar will fill up a little bit! I made an attribute called PlasmaBar, that saved the number of how much plasma you have. Its 0 by default. With every click, the PlasmaBar increases by 1.

Now I got this coding and it's just not working.. What am i doing wrong? The height of the bar should increase every time the attribute 'PlasmaBar' increases, right?

First screen is a scene behavior, the other one is an actor behavior.

Ask a Question / Pop Up Menu's
« on: June 10, 2014, 02:11:58 pm »
Hey,

I'd like to create some in-game pop up menu's. I tried to make a new layer called 'menu' and add the menu there. I hide the layer and created a button with an click event that shows the layer. The show/hide works, BUT..... there are other buttons in that menu and even if its hidden, its clickable. So there are invisible buttons, if you know what I mean. So i don't think this is the best option to make pop up menu's. What is the best or easiest way to create menu's?

Chit-Chat / How do you start making a game?
« on: June 06, 2014, 01:29:44 am »
Hey,

I was wondering how the most of you start making a game. I just started my first game and now I discovered few mistakes that I could've planned out better. Like, graphics and user interface. I started with a basic idea, some graphics and started developing the game without brainstorming what kind of buttons or actions I want in the game.  So my question was: what are your first steps before starting developing?

Great game.  Clean graphics, intuitive play and good sound.  It is the distillation of "God Games" into a concise, elegant/brutal design.  Well done.

Thanks a lot! Great to hear.

There is a bug in the game when you press play again at the end. You can't use the plasma's for the plasma disasters and I can't figure out why... Still looking at the blocks. Nevermind, i fixed it!

Hi there - first off, I really like your pictures for the most part, they're very tidy and clean!
However, what would be really great to see is some other animations for the planet - right now I don't get much of a sense of destroying the planet because the only thing that's changing is the number at the top. Also, perhaps an unlock menu for special disasters could be cool; or maybe letting abilities/disasters be combined; for example, tsunami + lightning storm = lighting wave.

Some more destructive music would be nice too, perhaps something grand and choral, to set the mood. Mozart's Requiem might work, and come to think of it, there might even be an 8-bit version.

Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention, the little messages are great. I ended up destroying the town where I was born in the first few clicks.  :D

Thanks for your feedback! I do my best to make it beter. I had some ideas in my mind but it's still a bit of a headache to make them work. I like your idea of combining disasters ;) I was also thinking about a upgrade menu where you can upgrade your disasters so it makes more damage.

I'll see what I can do!!

Chit-Chat / Re: Which icon is better for Google Play?
« on: June 04, 2014, 12:51:36 pm »
I go for number 2. It has to much going on in the icon tho. I think it will look a little bit to much when you see the icon in small on your phone.

I'd like to present my first game: Catastrophe Rush!
Destroy the world as fast as you can, you are God! How many days will you take to kill our beloved Mother Earth?

Instructions:
You start on day 1,  with 10 energy, 0 plasma and 7 billion people. Each day you gain 2 energy.

You can use your energy on disaster and try to defeat all humans on the planet. Some disasters has surprises! They cause a hidden disaster.

Plasma is used for the big major disasters! They cause a lot more damage than the regular disasters. Also, they are always active. That means people keep on dying instead of a one-time-damage. Plasma pops up on the planet sometimes or during major disasters.

Start Catastrophe Rush!

Play on Kongregate
