Was immediately impressed by the polish and feel of the app! My only criticism is that the game gets a little dull after some time.

thanks! I'm glad you like the aesthetics and feel, I haven't had anyone comment on that much.

I wanted to prevent the game from getting boring over time, so I put things into the game that aren't revealed to the player until they improve and last long enough to see them. Just wondering if these things were effective, if you got to them.

For example, there are two AI ships that can appear. One is small and friendly, the other is hostile and has a flame that cools down rocks instead of heating them up.
there are also 3 different kinds of rocks : Normal, huge, and pink magnetic rocks.

Hey. To anyone who thought the controls were too slippery, I just realized that the deceleration of the ship wasn't working at all. I fixed it now, though! Sorry about that.

If anyone was wondering why we opted for keyboard-shooting instead of using a mouse, I've always thought that mouse-controlled shooting in a flash game always feels very iffy and it's easy to lose focus of the window since it's so small. Ideally, I think i'd want to play this game with two joysticks though.
The WASD-arrowkeys controls have a learning curve to them, but it pays off after you get used to them in my opinion.

Also, interesting comparison to Smash TV. I've never heard of that game before, but the style of weapons and controls seems a lot like our game!

Hi! My team has just published our game AetherShip. It was a project for a class that was completed over the span of about three months.

Aethership is an arcade shooter game with 8-directional movement and shooting. The game features a weapon combination system in which you can change the form of your weapon (beam, split shot, orbiters), and change the effect of your weapon (burn enemies, explode, push enemies) independently of one another by picking up powerups.

The game also has an upgrade system in which you spend credits earned from killing enemies to boost the strength of powerups that you like.

Here is the official game description:

In a world where people harness the everpresent æther to laugh at gravity, a malevolent force is brewing. Sinister creatures in bizarre forms have come down from the skies to rain destruction on the land below. Only an expert æthership pilot like you stands a chance at fighting back.
Shoot down enemies and combine powerups in this arcade-style shooter. You can use the points you earn to upgrade your life and weaponry. How far can you get?

Space Roast is an Asteroids-inspired arcade game designed for touchscreens. It is controlled entirely by swipes on the screen. Depending on the direction and speed of a swipe, your ship shoots a flame in the direction. You can use this flame to move around and roast rocks! The idea is to roast rocks with your flame and then smash them.
I've tried to give the game a lot of depth in its simplicity.

The game also has two unlockable ships, Game Center leaderboards, and progressive difficulty that gets harder as you survive longer.

Please give it a try (it's free!), and let me know what you think about it.

Space Roast is a touchscreen arcade game about rocks in space. Roast and smash rocks to keep yourself alive.

Space Roast uses simple controls - just swipe in any direction to thrust in that direction - but there is a lot to learn. Fly around, and touch your flame to rocks in order to roast them. Get high scores! Unlock new ships!

There are tons of ways to play the game! Discover new techniques and strategies. Overcome challenges with cunning and skill. Blow up your rivals, or lend them a hand!

Some features:
3 unlockable ships.
AI that pilots ships similar to (or the same as) the player!
Infinite difficulty scaling! The game will always provide challenge!
High score tracking (no leaderboards yet, sorry!)
