This still concerns Stencyl 4.0.2 for macOS. Whenever I try to test a game project, I get this error message: "haxelib cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware." It happens regardless of whether I select Flash, HTML5, Mac or any other platform.

Has anyone else reported this issue?

Yes, it's not the original issue here, but a few posts in smarco reported this problem here. I've never seen that warning, so I'm a little confused, but I guessed that maybe it would show up in the security settings?

If you open your "Mac Settings > Security and Privacy > General" tab, do you see an "Open Anyway" button for Haxelib? If so, try pressing that.

No, Justin, I don't see Haxelib mentioned there, only two radio buttons: Allow apps downloaded from "App Store" and "App Store and identified developers".

Can you try running haxelib directly in a terminal? Just type in the following, replacing "Stencyl" at the start with the full path to your Stencyl install.

Code: [Select]
Stencyl/plaf/haxe-bin/mac/haxelib version
It should simply print "4.0.2".

After updating the Terminal to zsh, the new interactive shell, I followed those instructions. But instead of the Stencyl version number, Terminal displayed "No such file or directory". I was careful not to misspell anything, but I don't see what I could have done wrong.

Have you figured it out? I've been wanting to try Stencyl for a while, but I haven't been able to test the game. I get the exact same message you do.

No, I just started Stencyl on my Mac, and it doesn't even get past the splash screen. After waiting for about three minutes, I had to force quit Stencyl.

Another user had success by using the macOS preferences like I described. See this thread. If the method I wrote about is difficult to achieve, try what littlefrogvideo posted in the linked thread.

Starting with b10541, everything is notarized with a hardened runtime, as per Apple's latest requirements. Everything should work find in all private and public builds after this point (at least until Apple comes up with more restrictions).

The only thing to note, for users of the private .zip builds, is the new method of running Stencyl the first time.

Quote
If on Mac, the first time you run a .zip build after downloading it, right-click "Stencyl.command" and choose "Open." Choose "Open" again in the next dialog, and Stencyl will launch. After the first launch, you can run Stencyl with the "Stencyl.app" file. This does not affect our public and weekly .dmg builds of Stencyl.

These instructions have been updated on the private builds page as well.
