I only saw this yesterday but I think I'm going to give it a try, I'm having fun with the 4 colour restriction and coming up with ideas for such a tiny screen size :)

Here, I didn't quite have enough time to do a good walking animation so it'll have to be 4 frames, got to go to work ;( in order, idle animation, walking, wall clinging, jumping

Old Bugs (1.x/2.x) / Re: Freezes on Stencyl Site, not in Stencylworks
« on: January 05, 2012, 12:59:31 pm »
Solved! It involved removing all my sounds! ;-) (Rather than the ones i had added since it last worked ;-/ )

When I publish my game to the Stencyl website it freezes and crashes my browser, however it works perfectly fine when I test it in Stencylworks, any ideas as to why this might be? It seems like it must be a specific kind of problem for it to work on one and not the other, I'm not sure what kind of information I'd need to post here.

edit: its a mobile game, i forgot to mention. I've removed any mp3's ive added since it last worked when published as well as removing saving and loading blocks, neither of these things have made a difference!

Game Art / Re: Pixel Art Thread

Looks neat from a stylistic stand-point, but it's much, much too cluttered for a game, and there's not much pixel-refinement going on, which I suspect is what people meant by 'unfinished'.
Oh its the lack of visible pixel refinement that makes it look unfinished!! X)

I see a lot of jaggies, out-of-place AA, and muddy outlines. However, I guess the outlines are intentional. I mean, it looks good, but if you wanted it to be more pixel-oriented I'd try to work at a smaller resolution so that the pixels become more important, and it would also, I imagine, be easier to animate the character's movements and whatnot.

Yes unfortunately all this messy nonsense was intentional as it was just the style I decided to go for and I thought that might make up for the 'unrefined' look of the outlines and out of place AA, which I suppose it hasn't quite managed to do.

Well, I'm not complaining. However, like Stratesto said, it does look a little cluttered. And I like how you used so little of colors. It's better than mine, anyways. <3

Thanks!! Everyone is saying it looks cluttered its really an issue >.<

IMO, the tree bark should be tinted blue so that they blend in with the background, because they "pop" just as much as the sprites do which makes it look too cluttered. Usually it's a good idea to keep the background and foreground separate colours so it's really easy to read while playing.

Other than than, it looks really nice! I like the outlines especially. I would also like to see it as a real game.

A blue tree but look a bit weird haha but I guess the tree is the main contributor to the cluttered look, I just really wanted to draw a tree at the time haha. I also guess if i hadn't been so picky and determined to keep the colour count low the tree could have popped out alot less as well as everything else even. Ah well >.<  Thanks for the critique guys, this is really helpful!!!

Game Art / Re: What programs do yall use to make yalls art?
« on: September 04, 2011, 10:21:35 am »
I use paint for pixel art, illustrator for graphics (because somehow my friend shared it with me? I could never afford to pay for anything adobe products myself haha) MS gif animator for animating (partnered with a png to gif converter to make the paint images not mess up) and the Patronizingly simple transparentizer for adding transparency.

its a fake mock up of a non-existent game, but I kinda want to make it for real now xD I'm so proud I didn't use any black, which is rare for me. So far people say it looks unfinished, am I missing something??

My brother told me about it around 4 years ago because he knew I was into game making, and after a bit I joined the forum, beta etc. I think he found it via masterofhyrule's videos on youtube.

Game Ideas / Re: Good pixel art creators?

If you're making pixel art, paint is all you will ever need. But it is nice to have adobe programs like photshop at hand for graphics in general. Practice makes perfect, study other people's styles and ideas and practice as well, lots and lots of practice.

« on: May 31, 2011, 05:20:13 am »
I loved it so much i played all the levels, which hurt my brain :-(
Graphics were nice, sounds nonexistant? puzzles were good, I'm really happy at the physics, it wasn't like most bouncing games this one was much more realistic and challenging! Towards the end it seemed to get a bit easier, it seems like most of the difficult levels were around the middle. Other than that, great stuff.

I like the title and subtitle alot, and your choice of background colour. My criticism would be that the first and only post is a bit chunky for my eyes it made it difficult to read, but you're wrong at least 6 people have read your blog now!
